    I can see it now.
"Hey Doug, the boss wants to see you".
"Ok...be right there.... Sir, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes. I heard that last night your raid performance was sub par and you failed to kill the Lich King. Im sorry, but you're just not the go-getter this company was hoping you would be. Consider this your notice"

    Lol.

You must have missed the part where he said "post"....i know its hard since "reading" and "Posting" sound so similar.

Kinda surprised about the reactions being posted here... I'm 100% for not having real names on the forums although I understand what they wanted to do.

What probably happened is they figured it would be a 60/40 split on people against/for. After the thread explosion and the Blues working constantly to close threads and compile information, they realized it was a much more significant number 80/20 or even 90/10.

I'm glad they aren't going to promote prejudice on the internet.

Thank god, at least we know blizzard listened to the community on this one.

It compromised people’s ability to hunt for a new job. If a potential employer was looking at two similarly qualified candidates and discovered one of them was frequenting a videogame forum, it would negatively impact that person’s chances of getting hired.

Sadly, there is still an unfortunate stigma attached to gamers. Especially MMORPGers.

Yeh when I'm having login issues getting a trace route across over the phone is awesome after having been waiting in line for 3 hours and having payed an obscene amount of cash (their hotline is not free where I live). For some issues the tech support forum was the only way to get help.

  8. #168
Btw, don't thank them. They didn;t do this because, they understand our frustratin and concerns. The only reason they backed out of it, is becaue the saw a potential money risk in this, with ppl quitting the game. The online riot that ensued was enough evidence to convinve them to not go ahead with it.

They didn't suddenly saw the light and realised they were wrong.

So plz,plz plz don't thank them! Better yet, thank all the people who posted and protested strongly against this in the official forums.

Is it just me or does this feel like a big Xanatos Gambit to gain media coverage and to otherwise troll the playerbase? If so, thumbs up to Blizzard's marketing department.

    Blizzard: Just as planned!

No I read that part, but as I said the majority of issues are resolved already on the forums and you can find your issue there, not requiring you to post in any possible way.

It's called using your fucking brain. If you don't want to reveal your information on the forums yet still get support you can.

When you call them they send you to the forums, try it

Is it necessary to expose yourself to a (even if low) risk by showing your name in forums?

The difference is that one is a risk that every person must take or he/she must live a 'crippled' life, while the other is an unnecessary risk.
You may say what you want about how low the chances are, but I doubt you'd have the opinion if something similar happened to you.

Next time people say, that blizzard dont care about their players opinion, you can go shoot yourself in the face.

I didn't say it was the best option was it? The point is there are other fucking options, just because you choose to ignore those options doesn't mean they don't exist.

Just because you think it's important to you doesn't make it important to everyone and good for the whole community.

I don't know why people like you cant seem to understand this, but the forums are 1) not option as far as tech support goes since the CMs and GMs send you to them for problem resoluton and phone/email support is crap and 2) It is funded in part by the monthly fees, there for IS part of the game that I am paying for.

I see you have reading issues... WHEN I CALLED THEM (as you are saying I should) THEY TOLD ME POST ON FORUMS.

I'm not the slightest surprised. With all the flaming they received in response to the name change it was bound to happen. It may have been an effective method to reduce the amount of trolls, but a lot of other people would go away too. It was only going to be a matter of time before a player would get killed, assaulted or raped because the attacker found the name on the forums and ran a google search to find the home address.

Because in Starcraft, your Character name is not attached to any "realm". I find the logical conclusion to be that several people can use the same name, else you'd end up with silly names such as Xenryusho123 and Xenryushoxxx. The code could be a unique code, to differentiate between characters with identical names.

As a suggestion... do you take all suggestions as something you have to do without thinking about it?
