uhm, the nexus war already started a while before any player got to northend. wouldn't make much sense if she tried to convince him at that time.
and she says that she feels bad for the loss of life on both sides.

Well why could she not try one last time before we took and ripped out his heart?
would not hurt you know and it would also show that she really wanted it to end another way, not just say it after he falls to his death and she sits with his heart.

but maybe Alex was just mad at Malygos for something, maybe they never were any close at all

sorry, but i guess you don't actually get who and what Alexstrasza is and what it means, do you?
she would be sad if you killed a damn random bug because it is a living beeing. the loss of her children and loved ones is causing her unimaginable pain.
if she doesn't try to convince him again, it's only because she is also one of the oldest and wisest beeings on azeroth and thinks she would just risk the loss of even more lifes.

maybe blizzard could have done a better job in telling that in the game, but that doesn't mean her actions are illogical/selfish/cowardly/shortsighted/not-so-nice/whatever in lore.

No he wasn't -.^
He was an underplayed, mostly hated fight that removed from the Lore one of the 5 oldest, most powerful, influential characters almost as an afterthought, as an aside that you didn't even have to do to progress to end game content >_<

if it makes you feel better, malygos was probably weak like that because:

1) he wasn't fully healed from his last fight;

2) we had drakes with friggin' lazers helping us kill him;
