I want to have daughters... but if I end up having sons I'll raise them like this X3
well imma go, later guys
Their filthyness STAAAINNS me~~
Aww don't worry Sy, I was reading the Draenei appreciation thread a bit and you did so much work getting pics to people it's a wonder there are any you missed - maybe it's new =P
Well I am working on my Draenei sketch, it is taking literally hours, because I don't know how to draw properly yet..
I don't know all the ways the body curves, or the angles at which parts should be unless something is just facing straight forward.
For example, these things I am drawing atm are facing halfway between the front and to the right, which makes things infinitely more complicated. Simply having a leg bending, or clothes on the breasts that you are trying to make 3-d instead of just a flat on front view, makes it infinitely more complicated.
Also, I don't know draenei well enough - the odd way their legs are formed after the thighs, the horns, the tail, etc.
But I enjoy it, and the more pictures I look at and the more I sketch, the more used to the various lines and bends in the body I get, and one day I shall become a great artist! Just for now, I have to agonise over little details, researching how they look, whereas someone with more experience would do it in a simple stroke of their pencil in an instant >.>
It's also difficult seeing as I am refusing to look at anything pornographic...
May sound odd but seeing a naked body is so much more helpful than when it is clothed. e.g. the thighs / waist / groin area is really intricate. I usually draw people just wearing a skirt, seeing as that doesn't have to cling to the body, it just "floats" but this time I am trying to draw something more form fitting, and the folds in the clothes are impossible to work out if you don't have an intimate knowledge of whichever part of the body it is =[
My point is, if you want to draw, enjoy it, otherwise you will get bored before you get good =D
Or just do simple drawings with charm, like chibi!
why wouldn't you want to have a reason to look at pornographic stuff??? my advise is... get your favorite artists, grab some examples of their works and try copying it... the reason why it's so hard to draw something you've never drew before is because... I've never did it before... when you copy someone, you're doing it... after copying your favorite artists a lot you'll start being able to do stuff by yourself... than you can develop your own style... crawl before you walk and walk before you run... and you'll be fine....

another piece of advice... draw children, they are easier X3

I have nothing against Porn, but I am at University and I don't know what their stance on browsing stuff is even if it is on our own computers. Though I would be looking at nudity to learn drawing, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Meh. My sister has a very detailed book on figure drawing from some fashion artist guy which goes into amazing detail on anatomy, length of the body etc.
Funnily enough, a friend of mine who was really into art was talking about going to see a nude exhibition thing the other day, you know where someone poses nude to let people learn how to draw, but I don't want to do that =P
And yeah I have been drawing a Manga style girl from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhNNyoYfP0U
And would recommend it for others who are starting drawing. I have drawn that figure about 4 times in the last few days, and am starting to be able to do it from memory, though I have to spend a long time on it, and have to remind myself on parts like the hands. Each time I draw it slightly different, just the hair style, the size of the breasts (the ones he does are so awkward to get right) and the skirt.
I used to draw a bit, copying Studio Ghibli characters, but now I want to put something on this thread so I have started drawing a Draenei in addition to the lame Furbolg I drew ages ago.
But on this one, I am trying to draw some different clothes, and the way they hang down off the chest is new to me, the tail is hard to make look curly instead of just meh, and the left leg I am trying to make bend behind the right one, which coupled with the fact that Draenei legs are different from humans after the knee, and the fact that I am trying to draw clothes that drape over the said leg... I have bitten off more than I can chew -.^
here's a thing I do...
I read tons of manga on sites where you can read for free those titles your country didn't buy (so they don't sell it where you live and reading the scanlation is perfectly legal)... so here's the trick...
1) go reading... read... read more... read until you puke blood...
1.5) during step one, make a folder in your computer and start saving all the pages you think may be useful for you while drawing... I suggest creating folders inside that folder and organizing them... save your "head" examples in one folder, your "body" examples in another, your "XXX" examples in another one and so it goes...
2) whenever you start drawing, think about what you want to draw... but really think about it...
3) search in your folders for everything you have within your folder that might be helpful... characters in a simmilar pose as the one you wanna draw... similar hairstyle as the one you wanna draw... etc...
4) start drawing in front of your computer, looking at your examples while drawing your own pic...
5) do it a lot and try doing lots of different poses... over time you'll start to understand how to make your own poses in your subconciousness... that's when you won't need that much to look at your example folder...

This is what I want to be able to do =]
Though I don't have time to look at too many manga books, I'd prefer to just find more specific examples. Also, although I love the Manga style, especially the hair, the cute facial expressions, and exaggeration on certain things, I want to have it looking quite realistic - a balance between manga and realism =] At least so they look properly 3-d.
But as you say, it's what I am doing - practicing one image (a fun one at least) over and over till I really have an idea of how to do it without looking. Then I will take another image and practice it, a different pose. When I have done enough I will know what to do by memory / imagination.
I'm a long way off, but I don't mind because this is something I actually love learning.
