I wish I knew how many times I have to post just to share my own fan art... this is a little frustrating...

I have to say, i think someone who is a real Artist, wouldn't (or shouldn't?) need the "Sex sells" Factor to become famous.
It's just the easy way to get attention, because everyone looks at boobs. Don't get me wrong, i don't think every Picture that shows boobs and stuff is bad, some of them are really great. But being cute or being sexy is not a relevant thing to judge about the Quality of a Picture (or a voice, or an actor, etc). Most people tend to forget that, which sometimes is really depressing :/

if I were an artist I guess I'd draw a friggaton of sex... not because sex sells... but because I'm a pervert X3

i can't completely agree with that.
1) "sex sells" doesn't stop to be true when an artist has become famous. as long as there are people who don't know him/her, it will always be a factor of (even more) success. that doesn't mean it's "needed".
2) making a person look "good" actually is a big factor of quality. drawing a somewhat realistic face that looks really cute or beautiful isn't the same as drawing any somewhat realistic face. not every one who draws ugly people is a bad artist of course, but drawing truly cute, beautiful, sexy, whatsoever people needs a lot of talent and practise (well, at least if you don't think of every pic that shows a nipple as "sexy" of course).

Which is why it is easier for them to get the attention. You were correct in saying "shouldn't", but whether it's right or wrong remains irrelevant as people will always forget that.

See my edit, I'm tanking ICC10hc while browsing so it took a while to post my reply by which time I'd been proved wrong ^^.

I didn't say fame, I said money. Most cases I can think of the artist tries to move away from porn and never speak of it again as soon as they get a break and can subsist on non pornographic art. Case point: did you know Roald Dahl of children's book fame wrote "erotic novels" before his nicer works became famous? Equally though, sex sells no matter who you are.
