Smile How will Blizzard handle this new A.I. ?? (SORA)!

I am 200% excited about this!!

Named SORA (from OPEN-AI, the same company as Chat-GPT) this A.I. will debut in March or April.

If you still don't know what... (and this will blow your mind)... in 2 or 3 months you'll be able to make cinematics with your favorite Warcraft characters, perhaps (perhaps) better than Blizzard itself, just by typing a Prompt correct and well detailed.
With one or two more Android apps that do video editing, if you have a lot of imagination and creativity, you can even make excellent content for YouTube or TikTok, etc.

    I ask:
How will Blizzard act on this?
Today, putting images of Saurfang or Sylvanas or Arthas that you created using A.I. on the internet is no problem... but what about making complete films in the most varied styles?
Blizzard will swim against the tide... and prohibit fans from making these films, imposing massive fines on anyone who does... or they will "join the bandwagon" along with the fans and maybe even make a "short film championship" about Warcraft?
    Thoughts?

its still not perfect and pretty obviously flawed. If you analyze any of these videos with even the slightest of scrutiny you can see limbs merging with peoples limbs, comically bad perspective issues, things melting together, etc. Obviously the tech will improve but this is nowhere near 'better than blizzard' , it can't even nail perspective yet.

As for when it DOES improve, ur making a pretty big assumption when you claim that the "fans" ie playerbase will be in full support of using this slop to make creatively hollow work. I hate to break it to you but not everyone lacks regard for the creative process and human element in art in the way that you do

They probably won't take action unless there's monetary gain involved.

The second someone makes a video of Jaina and Thrall and puts it behind a paywall (like Patreon!) they'll send in the Ninjas.
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
I'm tired. So very tired. Can I just lay my head on your lap and fall asleep?

Just the same as they did in the past 20 years when people used their artwork to make machinima.

Will Blizzard forbid people from advertising their game for free? Is that what you are asking?

I just doubt anything but accidentally comedic or cringy videos will be possible, or if there is quality it will be generic fantasy with loose ties to WoW. Is there that much training data of WoW's characters? And will they do something cool or something that even makes sense in the videos? I think we will get Warcraft lookalikes of varying quality and the there will be two types of videos: cringy stuff 12 year olds might enjoy, and absolutely hilarious videos where things go wrong because of lack of Warcaft training data. It will make Warcaft Machinima look even better. Maybe something like using generic fantasy characters like "green orcs" and "undead woman archer" will make something epic, but then it's hardly Warcraft, and if it tries to look like WoW and fails because of lack of training data, it will be laughable/cringy.

Started in closed beta, probably before your class was even in the game.

    Free use.

So long as you don't claim that it's your own intellectual property, let's say, making a video of Garrosh and Varian fighting. If you credit Blizzard properly and emphasize that this is your own works via the SORA AI, then there's not much at risk.

However, if you have Garrosh and Varian... Doing something that belongs on 18+ websites, then they'll take action (They did the same with Overwatch stuff)

Awesome Sig/Avatar by the lovely Rivellana

AI isn't regulated by laws well enough now. I.e. license inheritance isn't applied to it. May be all authors should include "Can't be used for AI learning" to their licenses. Problem is - nobody can verify it. So, AI companies use anything they want for AI learning now, that poses threat of replacing all specialists, like programmers, actors, etc., via unfair using of their work, i.e. without paying royalty to them. And if it won't be stopped now - it will never be stopped. Simply because even if some laws would be adopted, they wouldn't have retroactive effect on already "stolen" property.

    I don't care about Wow 11.0, if it's not solo-MMO. No half-measures - just perfect xpack.

I fucking can't wait a few more years to see 90% of artists being even more mad and finally going to get 'normal' jobs not basing on their born talent.

As if fan made videos is something new.

Thanks god for Sora, before Sora it was impossible to make fan videos featuring Warcraft characters.

It would be much better, if Blizzard would care about mob AI in their game instead. Wow is still great game, but it's not ok, that in 2024 mob AI reminds me NES Metroid.

Have you ever typed "world of warcraft" into youtube? What do you think is different when people start using SORA to make their videos?

And what do you do for work, other than being bitter?
Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

Family business started from absolute scratch.
As a person who have literally 0 art talent i always felt slightly jealous that some people can make their living only basing on their high dice roll when born - times change.

There's probably a good reason the very curated examples you see don't deviate from the most cookie cutter type of short stock footage.

Its exciting and scary at the same time, I am all for pushing technological advances, but when its so unregulated, as it is, AI like this in the wrong hands can be very dangerous. We are talking misinformation, intrusive deepfakes, and just down right unethical practices which could see it be a big issue. I have no issue with AI as a concept (if it could even be called AI) but it needs structure and control, its too 'out there' right now.

As an artist (graphic designer these days), I see some interesting possibilities, but without control and regulation you are just going to get something very dangerous. It's more than just artists losing their jobs and stealing their work. Right now AI is still very flawed but over the last 3 years it went from Wil Smith eating spaghetti to what it is now. ITs amazing and concerning how fast its adapted.

I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW

Unsubbed since January 2021, now a Warcraft fan from a distance
