    Video Games Design

Hi there. I was wondering what programs exactly do Blizzard's Game Designers use. I mean to create in-game items and environment, not cinematics and such. There are is an extremely large amount of avaiable programs and I could never tell from any videos or anything else which ones they mostly use.

Should anyone know, please reply :P

    Thank you,
    Ted
World PvP and how it stands/standed.
World PvP isn't meant to be balanced, fair nor honorable. It's meant to be brutal, relentless, deadly.. and it's the survival of the fittest. It's a fight where everything goes and you use anything you can to survive and win. It's War.. a World of Warcraft where only the best survive!

I would assume for 3D projects they use either Autodesk 3D Studio Max or Maya, as those are the industry standards.

Wouldn't surprise me if they've developed their own software over the years, however.

For games most used software is 3ds Max.

How about Cinema 4d? Was thinking about learning that one, being that I just downloaded it and was messing around with it..

What are your goals, to find a job as a character/object modeller in video games?

I work as architectural modeller/visualizer, and do some character modelling in my free time, and I use 3ds Max, but I also tried Maya/Cinema 4D(didn't like both of them), just use what's more convenient for you(if you are going to work as a freelancer).
Of course, if you aim for a job at some company it's better to learn the program they use.

Jaelrin, my aim, tbh, is uncertain. I love designing and creating, but I also love programming. Still let's stick to design on this thread: Yes, probably Character/Object/Terrain/Land modeller or something, giving priority to land, terrain and area creation. What is the best in your opinion, and most easy to learn? Also, which one you believe that Blizzard uses to create areas?

"A minimum of 2 years experience in game development modeling and texturing 3D assets using Maya"

From their Careers Page, they also have in the Plus Section:

"Experience with Mudbox, ZBrush, (or equivalent modeling programs) and the process of converting high-poly sculpted environments into lower poly game assets"

Blizzard uses Maya. -- Edit: For... Cinematics X.X

I've just checked their vacancies it's mostly 3ds Max, and Maya for some:

I'm biased towards 3ds Max, because I've learned it first, and had a good tutor, but all 3d programs have similar tools, so just use what's more convenient to you. For example, I just don't like interface in Maya. Just download trial versions and see what you like more.

Terrain and area creation - it's mostly Height-editing, maybe it's done with Mudbox, and then all objects(trees, buildings, rocks) are added.

Yeah yeah, I noticed this as I was re-reading what I posted. That it was for Cinematics. My bad, but yeah, for the most part 3DS and Maya are the two big ones in the Industry so I'd take Jaelrin's advice and learn what you find you adapt too well and just stick with it.
