Single card: 5870 or GTX 460 ftw 1gb?

Hi all, I'm just curious.. does the 5870 perform better in this 1 v 1 battle in WoW or is it fairly close? Friend telling me if I have to RMA my 460 ftw to just bite the bullet and pay a little more for the 5870.

HD 5870 > GTX460 FTW in terms of performance - but both are already extremely overkill for WoW. Stick with the GTX460.

HD5870 is not a card that I would consider worth the cash. GTX460 is and has always been a far better deal. 5870 is still AMD's fastest single-GPU solution today, so it continues to cost simply far too much.

Imo 5870. Or get a 6870 for half the price and ALMOST the same specs and speed! That's what i'd do, imo. They JUST came out!

Or wait for ~19 days till HD6900 series comes out and watch prices drop further.

    5870 > 6870 > 460

The GTX 460 was meant to compete against the 5850.
The 5870 is meant to compete against the 470 (or vice versa)

The GTX 460 offers best bang for buck and value, and I'd take it over the 5870's smaller brother, the 5850, anyday.
The 5870 beats both, but it's A LOT more expensive so unless you're really willing to whip out some cash, get the 460 instead.

    wrong.

the 5870 came before the gtx 470 and it was NEVER ment to compate with that card.
Nvidia came with the gtx 480 wich was ment to compate with the 5870, but in the start the gtx 480 had no chance at all in terms of perfomance and price. but after Nvidia made a driver update, the 5870 could not touch it performance wise, but still in price.

    5870 - gtx480
    5850 - gtx470

at first 5770 - gtx460, but the 5770 had no chance after the Nvidia driver update, so they made the 5830 insted to compate with the gtx460 (still the gtx460 wins overall)

    @OP
get the 5870. its a super fast card and it gets cheeper and cheeper every week because of the new 69xx series coming.
Atm. the gfx cards are coming out to fast, so there is no need to get the newest, because the gain is just to small. i allways wait 2 cards series before i get new gfx cards

Get a 6870...they're cheaper and perform better than the non OC'd 5870's

this is false. The 6870 will perform worse in every case when compared to the 5870

Amount of disinformation in the computer forum is horrible, especially regarding GPU's and PSU's.

    You're free to leave.

[edit: Let me expound on this. Kripparrian's response (telling someone they are wrong and showing why) is acceptable. Blanket statements that insult an entire forum sub-section's users, while providing no information or proof, are not.]

Sorry, they will perform on par with the 5870. The price difference between the two doesn't justify the performance difference to me, but I stand corrected.

They do not perform the same, just look at the benchmarks I linked.
10% more performance for 20% more cost. It is def a reasonable price ratio as far as high end video cards are concerned.

You post benchmarks for WoW only..

    http://www.overclock.net/ati/864213-...vs-5870-a.html
    http://www.visualdreamers.com/news/a...-6870-vs-5870/

both show a much closer than 10% difference between the two in most all tests. You can argue a moot-point if you wish, but the fact of the matter is the cards are near identical to each other in terms of performance

about a 10% difference in the benchmarks you presented as well.
the 6870 costs 250 and the 5870 costs 300. For a 10% performance boost they are at almost identical points.
Also its pretty cool how after I point out false statements I'm 'arguing a moot point'

anyways, @OP the gtx 460 1gb is a much better value that then 5870 at this time. The 5870 will perform around 10% better at 40% higher cost.
