As of the 6xx / 7xxx series graphics card, the power consumption has dropped significantly.

    Guru3D:
    http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...y-sli-review/4

    GTX 580 tri-sli = 736 Watt
    GTX 680 tri-sli = 509 Watt

The large 1200Watt and even the 1KW power supplies are simply no longer needed by the average builder. And if you build something that requires 1KW+, trust me, you will know if you need it or not.

So save yourself the money, buy a PSU with a lower wattage rating, i would even dare to say that 500W is enough for a single card setup. I ran my 470 (which require more power than any single card setup from the 28NM generation) on a 500W PSU with the i5-2500k, 3 HDDs and 2 RAM modules.

    Look at this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371054

Perfectly viable for all setups with only 1 graphics card from the 600/7000 series of GPUs.

My thinking was to overspend now so it can last me 5 years through another 2 builds.

Bought it about 2years ago, made a few tweaks here and there but nothing major has changed.
Still manages to run like a champ. Also painted a few items to make them match the case.

    Yes.

Get a mid-range PSU now, and let it last you several builds instead. 650w and it can last you until the fan stops, basically. There will be nothing that comes out that you can't run off of it. Even 650w will be overkill for anything with "just one GPU", and has been for several years. This will not change.

    And nice pictures, Majesticii.

Technically, even if the fan doesn't spin an awful lot of PSUs are perfectly fine. An AX 650 is probably not going to spin up before around the 475w mark or something...

I had the same thing with my deathadders and had to change them 3 times. Good service at the store, but terrible products which I'll probably never buy again. I'm happy with my corsair mouse and KB now.

GR-Tek in Sydney did the awesome job of putting this rig together, I'm not going to pretend for a second that I could have done it myself, I was blown away by the build quality and time frame in which it arrived.

I'm using it for gaming (obviously) but also for video editing and from what I've thrown at it in the past week it is yet to break a sweat or even make any real noise. Tests I've been giving it are things like running Skyrim maxed out with high res texture mods at 2560x1440 and adding and manipulating effects in real time with 1080p video in Adobe Premiere Pro without needing to render footage whatsoever! (Anyone who has spent hours at 3am rendering footage while reading a book will understand how excited this makes me).

Case: NZXT Phantom Full Tower Black
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 Heavy Duty Low Noise 800W
Motherboard: ASRock Asus Z77 Extreme 4
    CPU: Intel i7 3770k 8 core 3.5Ghz overclocked to 4.4Ghz
CPU Cooling: Corsair H80 Water Cooling
GPU: Palit nVidia Geforce GTX 680 2GB
    Optical: LG Bluray Burner
Hard Drive: 240GB OCZ Agility SATAIII SSD + 2 x 2 TB Seagate SATAIII HDD
    RAM: 32GB 1600 Mhz DDR 3 G.Skill

    Perhipherals

    Monitor: Dell Ultrasharp U2711 27" @ 2560x1440
    Keys: Razer Black Widow Mechanical
Mouse: Steel Series WoW MMO gaming mouse (2 years on, yet to have anything go wrong!)

Nice setup mate! And nice pictures too. Liking the Dell U2711?

I would've personally swapped the PSU out for something else, a Seasonic X perhaps (the fanless 460W anyone?).

Oh, and I was going to go downtown for some stuff when a package of mine arrived...

I noticed in your pics that you have the U2711 Marest (and possibly one of the best builds I've seen of a PC)

I'm loving it... it's crazy but as you get used to it, even the 1080p monitor at work seems to lack real estate! I've never been a fan of 2 monitors because of the thick black line between them so this is basically my only option.

Colours are incredible, I didn't think it would be a 'noticeable' difference but vibrant colours just look amazing. Anti screen glare is a bit odd as it looks like there is a film of oil on the screen from certain angles yet it's still the best monitor I've ever seen.

Aaaaaaaaand I'd just complained a bit on facebook about how my waterblocks hadn't arrived, when they promptly did.

Those are some pretty sexy waterblocks...

Where did you pick them up?

  19. #8479
I ordered them directly from the EKwaterblocks.com site.

My computer specs are nothing fancy so I won't post them (I bought this computer for business not gaming), but I use a Razer Naga for a mouse. I also have an Xbox 360 Slim, a Wii, a PS2 I still play (it's got some classics), an N64 for parties (people love it) and next year I'll have the OUYA.
