So I WAS going to get a second 7850, but I have been reading leaked specs for the upcoming 8850 and 8870, and I might as well go with two 8850's because they are going to have about 70% faster computing power (G/Flops, T/Flops etc) and ~20% performance increases in all other specs for the same price as the 7850 is currently. Hopefully the GPU's use the same size PCB, I like how small the 7850 is.

Oh absolutely. It does get cold in Colorado during the winter. At least this way I can leave the heater off
The performance of a 680 for $200 less was appealing as well.

my old single 470 reference card got so hot that i had to take the side panel off and point a large 400 mm fan (one of those you use to cool your room) into the case :P could feel how everything close to, including my table that is 50 CM above the computer got like 5 degrees hotter.

I think the temperatures in both my cards hold at around 60-65*C when they're running SLI playing WoW, so it's not too terrible. They do sound like jet turbines when I have the fans above 70% though.

Playing battlefield is a different story though. 75-80*C minimum for both cards.

My GTX 590 runs 85-88c at 80% fan speed.
    Playing since 2007.

GTX 460* SLI runs at 80C.. in WoW And pretty much any game, think fan curve in bios is adjusted to not let the card exceed 80..

*the EVGA variant with annoying blower, radial fan-type, fan.

Got a low profile Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 to put in my semi-gaming HTPC. Hoping it will kick into that 3W power saving mode during nights, we'll see. Not that I can hear it during idle anyway but the HTPC is always-on (for rss-downloads/server/ftp/recording TV) so it'd be nice if it drew as little power as possible in idle.

My faulty card used to raise the temp in my room by about 3-5°C. Crazy stuff

My 470, before watercooling, would regularly hit 80-90 even when not being pushed 100%.

After watercooling and overclocking (from 607 to 800Mhz) it was running at 40-50 degrees. Still hot!

Looking forward to seeing how my 680 performs.

If you don't have a sound card, then no, you don't have the highest quality sound - but you might think you do.

Might buy one then, I bought mine when GTX590 released and all and I think I might skipped it due to not willing to spend more cash then the GTX590 and the entire new rig back then , haha.

Onboard audio is pretty good, but I apparently need a lil' more power for my DT 770s, according to head-fi's lil' list. Whether your headphones will benefit or not from a soundcard varies quite a lot.

I'll see how I feel about that soon, I think.

I like where this thread is going. I had a 6670 card where the fan on it broke. My case also only had 2 120mm fans, one for the case, and one for the cpu chip. My record internal temperature was 104C with nothing but two browsers and some background programs before I replaced it all.
