Cogwheels are socketable items that have stats equal to Jewelcrafting-only gems, and they fit only into cogwheel sockets. Currrently the only items with cogwheel sockets are the engineering goggles.

Wrong. Cogwheels have -more- stats than JC-only gems, but this does not put engi ahead of the game. Without the cogwheels, engineering helms are only Stamina and intel/strength/agil. The cogwheels are meant to provide the 2 secondary stats found on any cataclysm-style helm, and will be exactly equal in strength compared to an entry-level epic helm.

The profession has been so nerfed into the ground for cata... it actually kinda does need some serious buffs right now.

I just hope they buff it in time. I love the profession, but right now it really doesnt look like its going to provide any advantage to make it competitive with other professions. On top of that it also has nothing to sell.... even tailoring/leather/BS has a profession bonus right now that outpaces eng
