    Hamnet: 9/10

I'm a sucker for dramas like this. Incredible performances all around. Jessie Buckley has a 89% chance of winning the Oscar according to Polymarket, which I think is too low. All in all this is just a very well written family drama. It's not that special as a movie, but it just comes with a really great package of great writing and excellent acting that keeps you glued to the screen.

    Marty Supreme: 9/10

Basically Uncut Gems, but better in all departments. The main character is a bit more likable and charismatic than Sandler's, and the pace is a bit less chaotic. It's still a Safdie movie, so it's still nerve wracking as shit, but it feels more in control and with a clear direction.

Chalamet is excellent in this, and the last scene alone will probably get him the Oscar. It's not a perfect movie because I feel it steals a bit too much from Uncut Gems: neurotic Jewish guy goes on a rampage causing a chain reaction of problems for himself and everyone around him.

Huh, I pretty much had the opposite reaction (as I mentioned in my review). To each their own, I guess. I felt like this movie's ending was a bit unearned and it meandered quite a bit towards the end. It's bookended with some decent segments which highlight the physicality of the sport, but everything in the middle felt bloated and unfocused, especially when compared to Uncut Gems' laser spotlight on Sandler's character. Perhaps I just jived more with UG's raw energy, but I remember that movie feeling like a panic attack; in Marty Supreme I was just hoping the fucking movie would end. It's not a bad movie, though.

Is it out on VOD yet? I might change my view on second viewing.

Cinema. Some movies just take ages to come out in Europe.

Anyway I understand that Uncut Gems might be the better movie for some, but this was much more poised and in control. Uncut Gems is just pure mayhem in comparison. Like 5 people talking at the same time about 15 different things and you have to focus on one person vibe. I like both a lot, but from a movie perspective, Marty Supreme is the better package imo.

I gotcha -- it's on a ton of people's Movie of the Year lists for a reason. FWIW, I loved every minute of Chalamet's performance in this film. The guy is a fucking powerhouse. I just couldn't really invest myself in its overarching narrative due to all of the coalescing storylines.

Not bad overall. I think the book is much better.

The Pope's Exorcist - 4/10: Goofy. Take the original Exorcist, run it through a Netflix / Temu filter, and combine it with a bit of Indian Jones, and you get whatever this is. There's nothing original here at all.

The Wasp: 4.5/10 - There's a cool, but incredibly improbable twist in this one, and the way the movie even gets to its conclusion is laced with absurdity and flat out nonsensical decisions. So-so acting doesn't really help matters along the way either.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die -- 6/10

I'm a huge fan of Gore Verbinski. I mean, fuck. How can you hate a guy whose first name is Gore? His Ring movie remains one of the few times I legitimately felt terrified in a movie theater and his Pirates of the Carribean movies are legendary for a reason. But he's had a bit of a fall off in recent years. I didn't hate the film he made before this one, A Cure for Wellness, but that was a whole ass decade ago. Suffice to say, I'm glad he's back in the director's seat, though I can't say I was the biggest fan of this particular outing. It's a fun movie, for sure. But it's an amalgamation of ideas from movies that've all done it better. A little bit of 12 Monkeys, a dash of Akira, and add some social commentary stylized in the same batshit tone as Brazil. Sounds good on paper, but it severely lacks in execution. I liked the dark satire aspects of it, but I thought the movie was going to be a lot funnier than it actually was. There's a twist at the end that I figured out in the first five minutes, as well. Still, it's not bad. It's neatly paced and it goes in directions that very few modern movies do. The acting is excellent, with Sam Rockwell chewing up the scenery every opportunity he gets. Special effects are good, too. There's a monster in the third act that looks straight out of a cyriak fever dream -- in a good way. The score is generally forgetable and the story requires a significant amount of suspension of disbelief to take seriously. The movie doesn't, though, so it sorta feels like it goes nowhere. At best, it's a auspicious warning about our society's reliance on our phones and AI, but it doesn't really make a convincing argument against it. It just... exists. Iunno, the theater I was in seemed to dig it, so I might be in the minority; I just wish we got a little bit more.

    Brightburn - 4/10

Not scary. Unintentionally funny in places. Full of characters making dumb decisions. Couple of cool moments here and there, and superficially entertaining enough to keep watching, but only once.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Meh/10
It wasn’t bad, but I think the 28 universe is losing me a bit. 28YL was kind of a let down with the tonal shifts from scenes in part 1 being like watching a music video, to more of the traditional form in part 2, to the wth did I just watch ending.
This one didn’t have that, but I couldn’t help but see too many similarities to Day of the Dead with Ian and Samson compared to Logan and Bub, which kind of made me want to be watching that movie a bit more.
Wasn’t bad, it’s just I can think of many other things I’d rather watch.

    Weapons - 9/10

Finally got around to watching this. Felt more like a supernatural mystery thriller than a horror movie, but I liked how it was all pieced together. Some scenes went on a bit too long (Homeless guy), but the pacing otherwise didn't bother me at all. I liked how all the characters were flawed and mostly unlikable. I think the only character I actually liked completely was the Principal. Alex acquiescing for most of the movie, observing, and getting his revenge at the appropriate time was very satisfying to me. Was nice to have a bittersweet ending in a "horror" movie. I thought it was extremely entertaining and it's one of the better films I've seen in some time. It has it flaws, but I wont dock points from it for that.

    Return to silent hill

    Didn't finish.

    Badly acted, badlywritten and boring.

The acting g was so bad i restarted my PC in case there was a sound issue putting me off

One of the first lines ' theres the hotel, the view of the lake is so beautiful there' when they're stood in a better place.

Why didn't the driver wait for ten seconds at the bus stop

Why was his therapist phoning him at midnight.

Anyway went on phone at that point and turned off shortly after

    The Night Manager: 7/10

Entertaining for the most part, but nothing special. Now we have to wait another 10 years for the new season, which is frankly perplexing and I wonder why that is. Remember when new seasons came out every year? Pepperidge farm remember.

    Edit: wrong thread.

    Scream 7 3/10

This is terrible. Waste of time, walks the series back, and isnt even clever. Same jokes, same jump scares, same dialogue.

    The Stab movies are better.

    Hoppers 7.5/10

Newest Pixar/Disney movie. I tought it was pretty refreshing really. I am 40 years old(today heh) and I found it very amusing, which I havent said about these kind of movies in years. My sons at 10 and 11 tought it was great, while my thirteen year old being a thirteen year old found the technical errors at the cinema in the start of the movie was most fun...

Light story, pretty straight forward but really fun scenes and actions.

Caught up on some sequels I skipped in the theater.

Jurassic World Rebirth: 2/10 Dinosaurs have become a nuisance to present day society, much like this series of movies. All of the dinosaur action in the world can't save this turd. Every character is stupid, and not enough of them die. What the hell, Gareth Edwards?

M3GAN 2.0: 7/10 I found myself enjoying chunks of it, and got some solid chuckles. Movie lends itself better to PG-13 action violence than bloodless horror.

Predator: Badlands: 7/10 Movie was OK. I even liked some of it. Teases a bit of the Yautja culture, but I would have liked more. Not sure if I want a Dek sequel or a different Predator story. WTB bottom half of Thia, PST.

War Machine: 7/10 A simple training mission turns into Predator with a Metal Gear Rex. Wait... did this suddenly become a Battle: Los Angeles prequel/sequel/spinoff?!
