I finally watched Creed (Michael B Jordan, Sylvester Stallone) and I enjoyed it from start to finish. One of the better "Rocky" movies imo.
I give it a 8.5/10.

I have never put someone on ignore from this forum before...
you have committed grave sins against our age and I judge you with 1000 watchings of aliens vs predator
May your torment feel like an eternity
no wait, there was Tackhisis with his incredible zeal of pure hatred for the warcraft movie with endless rants of hate..
took him off though, hopefully he has moved on to other things to hate...
Gotta agree.
Aliens 3 was shit, and Resurrection was in the category of "so bad it's entertaining."
Neither of which compares at all to one the best sequels made that year.

Alien set the tone and trend for future alien horror films.
But yeah, I wouldn't skip "Alien." It made me look forward to the sequel. Because after that first movie I really wanted to hear screams from Aliens.
Oculus - 3/10
Whole plot made no sense. One of the most idiotic "horror" movies i've ever seen.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.
Just, be kind.
Saw Alien (1979) on second monitor on desktop. I wasn't paying that close attention during the whole movie so I won't rate it.
I think @Miyagie stated it pretty well.
Alien seems to have invented a lot of the troupes and themes that other movies use, so I respect it as one of the founder movies. And I do understand that it's from an older time so the audience/technology was different but...
I wouldn't call the movie a classic that anyone of any generation could watch and think it's superb (like the Godfather). (Which isn't an insult, but you guys hold the movie really highly.)
The 1979 graphics were pretty good for the time: my immersion wasn't broken (completely).
I do have a little disbelief that a 7 person space crew on a presumably important and expensive space ship is filled with so many idiots who are either retarded or crack under pressure, but...
It's actually like Miyagie says, the movie has literally all the troupes in it. (Spoilers below)
1. Group of people divide themselves and get conquered. (Never split up. Groups are stronger.)
2. An evil company cares more about science than it's people.
3. The main character stands out as smart, and all the retards around him/her get killed off slowly, until a few idiots and one antagonistic ally stay until the end.
4. People are in an enclosed space and have to find the threat among them.
This movie reminds me a lot of The Thing, Event Horizon, and that newer Alien movie with Magneto.
Anyway, it's a decent horror movie that holds tension, but then they mostly give jump scares (that are actually very unsatisfying because it's usually just screeching audio from the loudest cat I've ever heard), so I wouldn't even call it a good "horror".
Idk, it's interesting from a literary standpoint to see what other movies used as a reference, but as a movie itself I'd probably give it like a 1/10 or something low. (And that's not just the outdated graphics, but the pacing is very slow. The movie might've been better edited down to like 1 hour, but maybe that's my life experience having seen horror movies before making it seem not as good.)
The weird thing is, if they remade the movie right now in 2018 with better tech and even a slightly better script, I'm not even sure it'd get that much higher of a score. The movie really does hold up well.

Btw I forgot to mention, one other thing that Alien lacked was nuances. The movie is basically a very thin script where you're mostly watching the characters slowly act out the plot, and their emotions are very one dimensional.
You compare that to movies these days, even movies that suck like Jurassic Park or Transformers, and those movies have a lot of depth because even simple quips or jokes or character interactions carry a lot more meaning to the story. You don't get that at all with Alien.
Maybe that's a feature that all old movies lacked. (Maybe because camerawork was harder back then, who knows.)
The Predator: 1 ~ 10 *thpbbt* A mess. Not much to like outside of some gore and easter eggs. Predator > Predator 2 > Predators > AVP > AVP: Requiem > CG Predator porn (apparently it's a thing) > The Predator. And that ending? Pred-Iron Man? Fuck off.
Need Roll - 1 for [Bright Pink Imbued Mageweave Banana-Hammock] by Ayirasi
yeah, that ending...they now have advanced technology. But if they only go for some version of Iron Man then they went off the rails-stupid. Because they can create an amazing array of high tech, especially advanced armed satellites to detect predator ships...and if they refuse to go there...
Jurassic world 2 6.5/10
a lot better than I expected actually, probably my favourite JP sequel, I expected a big dumb movie, but instead I got a small dumbish movie.
I really like how they toned down the scale and made it more "intimate" and took the story to a new place instead of repeating the same old formula.
but it was still filled with stupid clichés, and insanely dumb moments.
the first act is just plain horrible
but second and third are actually pretty enjoyable despite them being utter nonsense.
spoilers:
it's funny though that the little girl is basically a metaphor for the franchise, an imitation of the original, that refuses to let things die.

Finally watched Infinity War. Wow, just wow.
So many moments where I was genuinely amazed, so so good. I don’t know anything about Marvel other than the films so no idea how the comics go, but I’m so excited to see what happens next!
9/10 for me
The Predator: 3/10
Jesus Christ. This movie is a Trainwreck. Weak comedy. Dudebro scientists. Teenager levels of swearing. A twist that melted my mind. And the ending....
The only enjoyment I got was the action. And that was laughing at the ridiculous kills you could make out.
Mandy - 9.1/10
This was close to a perfect 10 movie if it wasnt for some pacing issues in the beginning. Every now and then a film comes along and reminds you its an artform, not just a product to sell for millions/billions.
And this film felt like artwork, as pretentious and douchey as that sounds. The entire movie is like a dream or nightmare depending on how you want to look at it. The visuals are deeply original and unique, it looks like a oil painting half the time. The music sets the tone perfectly. And Nic cage brings such intense passion I actually laughed at how absurd some of his scenes were in the best way possible. I just felt the pacing was a bit off for the first half of the film, the director took his time to set up the story, which is cool but it did feel it dragged a bit in places. But the 2nd half of the movie is just pure insanity and any lover of film should at least give this film a chance.
Forgot to give the "villain" a shout. Dude is genuinely creepy and one of the best villain performances ive ever seen.

A Scanner Darkly (2006): 9.5/10
I FINALLY saw this, one of the most intriguing sci-fi movies I've ever seen. I haven't read the book so I can't comment on the differences between them, but I can guess that it remained faithful to the original. Anyway, the writing quality is simply out of this world. It does meander a bit though, and it can get a bit grating, but I guarantee you it more than makes up for it for its ending. What should come as a warning though is that the message it presents is extremely depressing. Don't watch this if you suffer from addiction and depression. Seriously, I don't know if you can take it.
Upstream Color (2013): 7.5/10
This is more of a visual poem than an actual movie. It had me in a state wherein I was simply unable to blink, completely entranced at the pretty imagery and soundtrack. The story is very convoluted, but there is a deeper logic behind it, much like its predecessor, Primer. However I felt that, in comparison, the puzzle you have to solve is a bit simpler. If you don't really care about imagery or ambient music or solving puzzles, I don't really see it grabbing you.
The first part of the movie was better for me, simply because it seemed unpredictable, whereas you know what is going to happen in the second to the point that it takes the edge away.

How good is Robert Downy Jr in A Scanner Darkly. Hes perfect for neurotic/paranoid roles and even manages to chuck in some humor among the more depressing undertones.
Fair enough I was just keen to get to get full firing Nic cage. The beginning did some very creative stuff with just color and set design. Its a very trippy film, good one to watch with a few alcoholic drinks
Upgrade 9/10
I would say it's one of the best movies I've seen come out of 2018 besides Blade Runner sequel. Hilarious, clever, and original scifi, but interesting twists.
Casino - 8.75/10
Before you even say it. Yeah, I know I'm late to the party.
I don't much care for Sharon Stone or the majority of the cast (barring De Niro of course) but she did an amazing job at playing the hysterical degenerate wife of Sam Rothstein (De Niro's character). Other than that I never quite understood her appeal. She's extremely overrated as far as looks go. As for the film, the writing and acting was top notch (as you'd expect from a Scorsese film). Top it off with Pesci being Pesci and a couple brutal murder scenes and you've got yourself an entertaining film.
