If you want to be a top notch hunter, then you should read some of the MANY hunter-blogs out there and get some knowledge about stat wieghts and from there combine your own BiS list. This will make you a better player since your knowledge of the class is vastly improved

"Give the man a fish and let him eat for a day"
"learn the man to fish and let him eat every day"

    I believe it is:
"Build a man a fire and keep him warm for a night...
Set a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life."

stat weights are so heavily dependant on your current gear that they are wrongly understond by about 90% of all raiders. for example, assume you are wearing these shoulders and are hit capped:

    350 AGI, 400 STAM, 300 hit, 300 crit

now, if you use stat weights like most people use them, i.e. with your entire gear set on, you would find that hit has a weight of 0, since you are hit capped. therefore, exchanging these shoulders with similar shoulders, that have mastery instead of hit, would seem a decent choice. however, if you were to make that exchange, you would find your DPS to drop, since you just lost 300 hit. the problem with stat weights is that you can only do them for one specific slot at a time and for one specific item at a time, and your stat weights should be calculated with that slot empty. most people, however, don't make that connection.

another example: if you have an item with 300 hit and 300 in another stat and you are hit capped, and can get another item with 400 hit and 300 in that same stat, it is easy to misinterpret your stat weights and think that the item with 400 hit is the better one, because it has more hit. however, if you then make the stat weights again with 400 hit, you will find that your stat weight for hit has changed with 33%.

stat weights are like the bible. 5% of the people can read them and view them with a critical eye, 10% know how to read it, and 85% think they can read it, but are overwhelmed by them.

There is already a topic about this, on the first page of the hunter forum. Please look harder (or try google) before creating another.
