can someone explain all the rick and morty hate? Why isn't anyone making fun of family guy for being completely reliant on flashback humor / cultural references? Or aqua teen hunger force for being really low brow at points? I would ask someone to talk shit on the simpsons, but even after 20+ years the writing is still better than all of those shows.

there are some pretty shitty rick and morty fans, dan harmon has come out and said that he fucking hates them and wishes theyd fuck off and stop watching his show but that hes accepted that if you have a popular show some shitty people will like it.

some of the fans have been sending death threats and doxxing female writers of the show trying to get them to quit and other people have sent him death threats and and done/physically sent him shitty stuff because of the direction of the show and hes said basically this is his show and if you dont like it fuck off and watch something else.

its the top rated comedy on tv right now, everything popular has shit people who like it. but the show itself isnt really random, atleast, not really since this season since its become alot more story focused.

i think alot of people watch rick and morty and arent familiar with mental health problems and they see rick acting like an ass and doing cool shit and they think ricks cool but they dont realize that rick is a psychopath and he fucking hates himself.

rick is actually a really good example of alot of mental health issues and the shows become more introspective on that while it was all about wacky adventures before its more about how the adventures are a way for rick to escape from having to deal with the shit hes done to his family and how he uses faux arrogance and his narcissism yo hide his emotions and how morty and summer use the adventures to block out their feelings about their parents divorce.

as someone who has psychopathic tendencies and from interviews with the shows creators and insight into how they write the show i connect alot with it but i know alot of people just see things like PICKLE RIIIIICK! and just think its funny (ignoring the entire point of the episode was to show the lengths rick will go to avoid talking to his family about his feelings, turning himself into a fucking pickle just to avoid therapy)

I find that Rick and Morty is to TV what Undertale is to games. Its great, meme-worthy, smart, and just all around well done. BUT with such a great piece of art like Rick and Morty or Undertale, you have people who praise it as some sort of media deity, and that anyone who doesn't like it are idiots or don't get it, you HAVE to like it. These kind of uber-fans are toxic for any fandom, but it is inevitable when you create something so popular and polished.
