It doesn't matter if you write out that function, the teacher obviously followed the logic that it was a square board and the 3 pieces didn't need to be the same size, so you could saw it into 3 pieces in 15 minutes.

If you follow that logic, four pieces should take 17.5 minutes, not 20. You'd cut the square in half (10 minutes), then cut one of the halves in half to get quarters (5 minutes), then one of the quarters in half to get eighths (2.5 minutes).

Cut it once, 2 10x5 boards. You then cut each of those once to get 4 5x5 boards. Distance for those two cuts was 5u, half the first cut of 10u. If you were to cut each board again you would cut it into 8 5x2.5 boards where each of these cuts have a distance of 5u (thus taking the same time as the 2nd round of cuts).

Oh god, please stop those arguments about boards. If you know and understand how it works then fine, good for you. If you don't then too bad, get some board and go cut it. But stop arguing on forum about that, it's no use.
