The Vikings described the Scotsman as the most fierce-some, ruthless, brutal and lethal lot of people that they had ever fought, and that's coming from a sect of people who made their names by raping and pillaging their way across Europe.
Then there's the Romans, they made their way across the world, conquering and civilizing, conquering and civilizing, conquering and civilizing. Then they reached Scotland and built a wall.

Essentially, I love being Scottish for the heritage (Auld Lang Syne :P), for Frankie Boyle, for Limmy and for Scotch :P.

    Mon the Scotland!

and because Manly men can wear a skirt... ;-P

Hey now, in the ancient world, trousers were considered barbarous. Greeks and Romans used the term "trouser-wearing barbarians", so the Scots are just keeping it old school.

While I can appreciate the sentiment this thread is meant to convey, I don't see it being productive or necessary outside of being a "spam your flag" type deal.

That being said, feel free to show national pride with a small flag in your signature or for your avatar.

    I live in Denmark.

There are a lot of things that i am proud of, and a lot that i am not.

    I love our free healthcare
I love our free education system
I love the fact that the only homeless people are those who chose them ourselves
I am proud of the many danes who fight for peoples wellfare and happiness.

However, there are of course flaws.

I do not appreciate the racism
I do not appreciate the government we have now, leading our country in a very liberal way.
I do not appreciate the respectless danes drawing Mohammed and pissing off the whole middle east, although i do appreciate the freedom of speach.

I am a socialist, and judging from what you see about america in tv and read in the papers, this may not be a good thing. But i am proud to come from a country where the laws are based on an ideology, that is based on love and respect for every other human being in the world.

The place I was given birth in is Finland, my moms was from Scotland and pops was from Finland.
I live in finland right now, however the pride...Well, I like the people, the education, the history and the music...
As for Scotland...food and the people...and I must be one of the few that actually -loves- great highland and the lowland bagpipes and the music made with them!
What I feel ashamed of regarding finland: Goverment and all the assholes there....For scotland it'd have to be the government aswell(because 'tis unfortunately a part of the UK...so...technically 'tis the UK government that I dislike)

Yes yes, i'm Italian. The problem is that i am not proud of my country, lately. I used to, i used to be positive and work hard to demonstrate that Italy isn't MafiaSpaghettiPizzaMandolino. Well it's increasingly so the more we go on with time.

I am proud of my heritage, of my history but i am not of what this modern age has brought to my beloved country.

I am one of those Italians that are thinking about emigrating with great sorrow for being forced to look somewhere else.

I would be proud of my Italy if it wasn't for the political and economical problems that aren't being addressed, I would be proud of my Italy if the online community wasn't so much recognizable and pointed-at (and for a good reason, see crushridge-eu, hakkar-eu and part of runetotem-eu where the italian community has taken over and speaks a very rude italian in every public channel.)

But i'm still italian. I'm italian and i wouldn't like to be anything else, so, yes, i'm proud to be italian, after all.

    I'm happy to be Swiss.
4 official languages in a country that can be crossed by car in 4 hours (in any direction!); a unique half-direct democracy that allows us to influence the government's decisions, some as important as whether to join the EWR/EU (we simply voted No); the strong economy and, of course, the best chocolate in the world!

I can`t say I feel any pride in my country, or love for that matter. I`m from Norway.

    Sweden!
I love my country because Sweden and Denmark are the two countries who have fought the most wars against each other in the history of mankind. Yeah
PS: If Denmark has some issues with us, I'm prepared to sacrifice Skåne, just sayin'.

    This thread needs MORE Dutch.

I dont know what to say about our current state of affairs, alot of immigrants and politics is a mess atm.

I like our history, not so much the last 100 years because our queen fled before the germans even got close.
I do like our naval history though, VoC and all that. The first multinational corporation in the world and the first company to issue stock!
What up yankees, remember New York? New Amsterdam, just sayin.

Other than that people beat each other up at soccer matches, but when its the world cup or something suddenly everyone is friends.
    Love it.
