    Mats for epic gem xmutes

    So I have been stocking up Inferno Rubies in anticipation for whenever epic gems come out (have 6 alchemists to supply) as the raw gems will almost certainly be a mat for epic gems. What I'm wondering though is what the secondary material for the transmutes will be. In Wrath it was Eternal Fires/Life/Shadow/Water/Earth/Air along with the corresponding gem color, but in Cata there is no "Volatile Shadow", which leaves only 5 types of elements and 6 types of gems... Any thoughts on what it might be?

    Twilight Jasmine, it's quite possible it uses herbs rather than volatiles.

    I hope it's not Jasmine.. I need those bad boys for all my flasks.

    Well I thought it would be herbs at first too, but they are already used for creating the blue quality gems.

    My suspicions lie in that each color will have a corresponding element and the source of the green epic gem will be 3 Dream Emeralds. I don't think that it would make much sense if they built two levels of transmutations on requiring herbs.

    No, water and earth didn't used for transmutations. Orange and purple gems both used shadow and green one didn't use any element.

    on topic: Gem + herbs + volatile element. IMO

    I'm guessing Gems + volatile element myself.

    Red = fire
    Blue = water
    Yellow = earth
    Orange = fire + earth
    Green = life
    Purple = fire + water

    Something like that. I think they'll leave air out of the mix since it's already the rarest of the volatiles.

    I've decided that they might include Chaos Orbs now that they're going to be available from JP vendors. Epic gem patterns might coincide with chaos orbs becoming tradable.

    When did they announce that chaos orbs are going to be made available from vendors. I don't remember seeing anything in the patch notes about this.

    I'm guessing he's just assuming they will be by the time epic gems are available, which is probably a reasonable assumption based on the past.

    The Rare transmutes already use herbs.

    I'm stocking up on Rare raws and volatiles.

    I dont think they'd use both volatiles for the mixed gems(Which are usually cheaper when bought from a vendor!)
    OT: I have a feeling they'll just make you use 3 blues to make a purple for certain gems
