I have an ati radeon video card. New driver version was posted today, but i cannot update it. It goes through like it's installing, then comes up with an error "Catalyst Control Center cannot be started.

Reboot to safe mode and use http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Dr...Version-2-9-0/
Then install the newest version

This information should be plastered on the download screen for all driver downloads, in huge font. But some will probably still not read it. Might help though.
