I'm in need of a lot of gold.
What gathering profession do you think is best to make gold?

It depends on server, check prices on your server. I've had servers where average ore was 100g a stack and skins were ~5g a stack, on another server most ore was <10g a stack while skins were 60-100g a stack. Find what items sell the best on your server, use wowhead to find where to farm that item, profit

As others have said, herbalism and mining. Skinning is ok but tbh it's a lot faster to gather herbs/ore than leather, especially if you are on a pvp realm.

I would say Mining. The amount of Obsidium and Elementium that is flowing is ridiculous. The Obsidium Shuffle is a huge money maker right now! If you don't know what the obsidium shuffle is I talk about it a lot on my blog if you want.
