Its said that Jacobs was caught pulling out a knife on Parros haha

No but really... Chris Botta (reliable): Text from player "You were wrong. Wasn't a waste. Will know more by Thursday. Good meeting. I'm optimistic."

Pierre LeBrun: Talks have been substantive. Pens owner Burkle made his presence felt. Players are receptive to him.

I'm glad he was one of the owners in the meeting. Glad they didn't just send in all the hardliner guys.

Gary Bettman will address the media at noon (central time) tomorrow. Inc "still not close" "Im an asshole" "fuck the fans." Hold onto your butts everyone...Hey! Maybe hes handing in his resignation!

Tom Gulitti out of NJ reports that the Bettman media address was planned beforehand. Nothing to panic about unless tonight falls through.

Meetings have resumed w/o Bettman and Fehr.

Daly: "We are going to meet tomorrow morning before our board meeting at 11."

    Same group meeting again tomorrow.

Steve Fehr and Bill Daly holding joint press conference although won't say much. Fehr called it maybe best day so far in this process.

the players have been winning the propaganda war all along, they keep talking about optimism and its the owners and Bettman who are talking doom and gloom and issuing moratoriums

perception has the ownership constantly raining on the parade, if people want to hate on Bettman for anything, and theres millions of things! public relations is a big one

If the owners and players bang out a deal as soon as Bettman is removed from the negotiations, how hilariously embarrassing is it going to be for him lol? How could he even possibly continue as the commissioner if that happened.

At the BOG meeting today they apparently discussed a 50-60 game season plan. If a deal was to get done in the next couple days, camps would open next Wed-Friday with the season starting Dec 20.

Yea I think they were saying if the season started by the 20th they could save a 56 game season. That means they need to get a deal on paper by friday at latest.

Also, NHL plans to relent on player contracting issues. Player contract length still remains important to the league.

Update: NHLPA presented NHL with a proposal. NHL is now meting internally, NHLPA waits...

Marcelos? I miss you come back!!!

Update: NHL pitches a counter offer to the PA

Man I hope they get this crap done, this almost feels like one of those moments where if they don't get it done, its probably not gonna happen.

Kinda funny you take the two morons out of it and things start rolling really damn fast.

Just in: NHL & PA walked back into room after dinner break and Jacobs couldn't handle not being a complete pos and he shanked Crosby, followed by killing 5 more players, in the end Parros was taken down with a horse tranquilizer after he beat Jacobs to death. Meetings over, NHL gone forever.

No but really, dinner break over, meeting resumes, happy thoughts guys!

Kristians Pelss, an Oilers prospect, was suspended 21 games in the ECHL for a behind the play 2 handed slash to the face of an opposing player. 21 games seems low without having seen the play. According to the Edmonton Journal no video of the incident exists. From a staring at train wrecks perspective, pretty bummed. I imagined it looked a lot like:

It would probably mean the end of his time as commissioner, most likely.

And then apparently came back. They must not have realized that you don't actually buy the strippers, ala Taken sex slave style, when you pay for a dance and had to take them back. Oh you nutty rich folk forgetting you can't legally buy people in the States or Canada(?). At least I assume you can't buy people in Canada.

CTV news was unbearable with optimism about the talks. I think they should reel it in a little bit and try to be objective.

Miller snapped back at Jacobs at one point, Jacobs just about left the room lol. "im so shocked" - said nobody ever... "at least we know he can stand up to a Bruin" - Ian Mendes

NHL pitched offer and raised their "Make Whole" offer to $300m up from $211m in exchange for greater concessions in area of player contracting. Players had asked for $393 in their offer two weeks ago...Middle?

$250M is Make Whole and $50M is for pension funding that would not come out of the players' share.

Owners also staying firm on contract max of 5yrs and 5% variance. Did offer 7yrs terms for teams to sign their own FA

FA and Arb to stay status quo, 27 and 4 Years Pro.

NHL proposal for 10 year CBA term contains an opt-out clause after 8 years. So it could be an 8 year deal.

The players may not love the leagues proposal...but, it might be enough to encourage a full membership vote. Make Whole will always be an issue...

NHLPA internal meeting to take place mid Thursday morning and will include players not in attendance via telephone

    Michael Grange's story: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl-l...ners_proposal/

Thats about it, more meetings tomorrow...

The sense from the meetings today is that things are rapidly deteriorating depending on who you believe. Apparently there is massive in fighting among the owners now over the $300 million make whole number. Or according to other reports things aren't as dismal. Who knows.

Adding Bettman and Fehr back into this is going to end up killing negotiations, just watch.

    ---------- Post added 2012-12-06 at 02:08 PM ----------

Oh boy, the NHLPA has officially requested the return of federal mediators. The NHL hasn't responded to the request yet. So things are indeed falling apart.

“Let’s leave,” said Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, turning to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly.
