I think the unknown water dragon is the tentacle one. :P Judging from the picture of his shadow Jormag looks like a normal dragon.

He could turn them into concubines and mistresses kind of like Illidan does in Black Temple! But chances are he just eats them, that is if he even has to eat being an elder dragon and all.

Random fact, apparently enemies are under the impression that movement counts as an ability.
Not sure if it's intentional or an AI bug, but I was confused as to what Daze did during the beta as I did not look it up before-hand and when used in PvE it seemed to be a stun since they stopped moving and attacking.. yet when used in PvP they continued to run around freely.
Yas, I am aware of all the lore behind it for the Norn and Charr. It was presented kinda odd though and I didn't really see a natural [read: humanistic] response to it. Like when you go with Eir to smash the Sons of Svadjafjf den. It's kinda tossed out casually, "Oh ya, they hate women. Weird right?". Further one of the Sons makes some sort of insult toward Eir about her skirt, yet my supposedly brash and ferocious Norn female slayer is like indifferent. Then they jump to this scene where you threaten the guy to whipping him with a woman's braids...
All of it seemed way out of place, surfacey and sorta indifferent to your female character. I don't expect Faulkner, but if you are going to bring up such an issue at lease present it a little more deeply or interestingly.
I kow the lore behind it. Yet there will likely be just as many people "WTF? Whip him with her braids?" over that as well.
So do every single one of my female characters, and myself. I sort of meant it as in their point of view. I don't actually think they are weak, I just didn't feel like it needed me to add that. Still, I must admit your point made me laugh.
Oh, I actually didn't do any of the personal story, and I didn't end up dabbling much in the Norn area so I couldn't really tell that'd be an issue. Is it something that you think they will address further in your story or just something they'll keep in simply for the lore people?
Also, maybe it's kinda valid to make them seem more hate worthy? I don't know but the way you describe it does seem like a weird presentation of the issue...
(At least the Charr have a statue of Kalla with some flavour text, but I don't know if their story will reflect the same issue of dismissal of this big element of their history...).
I honestly don't know. It was so weirdly written. Something about it put me off. Though I think that is a larger issue with the Personal Stories as they all felt rather cartoonish, poorly written &/or juvenile.
One of the devs pointed out they were going for Teen friendly stories and were intentionally written in a certain style per race. Which is fine, but also kinda odd to throw gender issues in there almost haphazardly/casually.
Would hope they do follow up on it or at least give your character an option to react in a manner that is... well, sensible to me.
Overall, think I just disliked the Personal Stories in retrospect more than I realized at the time. Though I did note the odd tone sort at the time. Just didn't reflect on it too much till afterward.
Yeah, I find that with time I tend to feel a bit more critical and objective with a lot of things.
Honestly I don't have much of an issue with the cartoony, always-the-hero, teen personal story, because I always think of the really cheesy action films I enjoy, and how I can play the hero in those while playing GW2, but I can totally understand how that would be a bit odd. (As far as I'm aware, from all the complaints I've read about it being quite cheesy).
I wonder if the story gets a bit less... childish as the time goes by, particularly when it gets to the time of your character joining one of the three orders (I can't remember their names) that wish to fight the Elder Dragons.
Also, the personal story doesn't seem to last too long/it is in short bites so maybe it will be bearable?
I don't know, as you describe it, it does just seem quite... odd.
The story might get more deeper and dark as time goes by. JRPGs are notorious for being kinda wonky and childish at the beginning but intensifying as the story goes on. GW2 isn't a JRPG, but was just making a comparison.
Yea, I just can't predicate how it'll shake out by level 80. I did play through 2 full stories [up to the level limit], 1/2 of the Human one and 1/4th of the Charr. Of the 3 available races, Charr were the best written & most interesting- felt very human/engaging.
I don't like playing monsters though. :s
See the only one I tried was the Charr one and only the first 2 or 3 quests. I really didn't want to spoil that bit of the story, and now I'm half regretting it, coz I wish I had seen it so I could make my own opinion on it.
I think you can hope for the Sylvari or the Asura to come out with a story as good as the Charr and maybe you can have the best of both worlds?
I personally thought I'd do a Norn first but... Charr had me completely in love with everything about them so yeah.
I'll get around to play all of them.
Sylvari and Asura are also monsters/creatures. -_-
It'll be fine, lol. God knows, there are plenty of games with worse story lines than this one. I can bear with GW2's stilted dialogues if I was able to stomach FFT:A.
Ohhh! Ok, I thought you meant monsters as in animal creatures.
I hope you don't find this offensive, but as someone who feels like most human races are boring in games (and I already play one in real life, so I often go for the 'monster race') I'm kinda curious to ask, can you explain why you feel that way?
I really love the creature races in pretty much every game, and I always wondered what makes people dislike them so much?
Also maybe you can get a charr friend and just group up for his/her story? You should be able to follow personal story that way last I remember.
I wonder though. I thought my human story was pretty decent. Perhaps it depends on the choices you make when building your character. I was a noble who wished to find her sister that was taken by the centaurs, I play with dignity and honor. The story I felt fit the choices very well.
Playing
WildStar -Mechari Medic, Draken Stalker
Diablo: RoS
GW2 - Ranger
The only gripe I had (commoner, dead sister) was that the bad guys were REALLY obvious. Basically, anyone who didnt accede to my characters every immediate wish was a bad guy. And out of two characters who disagreed with me and Logan, oh, look. Both were evil.
Rather have a few more shades of grey.
