Pretty sure we're talking about the same Drake that said that he found most books to have boring stories due to being spoiled by A Song of Ice and Fire. Him saying that GW1 had a bland story isn't the most surprising thing in the world.

Also Mif, I'm telling his GF you said that. I think she'd like you, she seems to like dead things.

Prophecies was grossly generic, heavily heavily cliche. But Factions was worse.

I must be in the minority, because I actually liked Nightfall. Taking down not just Titans, but a god himself, replacing it with someone else to continue that aspect... it felt very Realms. And being written by Grubb, I can see why.

    Nightfall .../drool.

    Best. Expansion. Evuuur.

I loved everything about Nightfall beside the torment realm. I especially loved Vabbi, hope so much to get to run around Vabbi one day in GW2.

What I think about gw1 is that: It has a very good lore but it just wasn't that much inside the game. Even tho I always liked how the story progressed thru the missions, Ive never reallly felt bound by the lore. Now that completely changed with gw2, last night I was (I have nothing to do HALP) reading about the non-playable races. And OMG, Quaggans rox! XD And so do the others.

I actually kind of liked Eye of the North the best, as far as stories go.

I only dabbled a little in GW1 but never really got pulled in by the game... I think it's kinda sad for me because I will miss out on a ton of lore that may make the GW2 experience even more interesting. However as I only put maybe 8-10 hours into GW1, I may have simply stopped before it got good... so my question is: does GW1 get better and better the more you progress or should i expect the same kind of system and the same quality story?
    This is GW1 not GW2.

PS: stop hating on asura. they are awesome :<

I think that gw1 was unique, and sometimes I would classify it as hard to swallow. If you think you could get past the way it is (how you feel about it when playing it) the experience is awesome. I did not go too far my the more I played the more I wanted to play, after a few hours of getting used to it.

Can you change the mouse controls around, so stuff that normally happens on left clicks happens on right clicks, and vice versa?

I thought it got better. The weird part is I actually enjoyed the game once I was done with all the stories and the only thing I had left to do was the grind. I did wait til after I finished all the campaigns to get my gear and set up my hero build with the final build I'd use, so maybe that played a role in why I liked the game more after the stories.

It's just a different type of game, and it requires a lot of learning. That's partly what I liked about it. Even though it was frustrating at times, I did enjoy the learning curve and how even til I was nearly 30/50 in my HoM I was still learning things.

If you just absolutely hate the game from the start then you probably won't like it at all no matter how much you play, but if you think it's just ok then you might be able to push past it and keep playing til you like it.

Anet make very particular type of games in feel, control and design. It's not good or bad, per se. Just very... um, unique.

I do enjoy GW1. Maybe a bit more than GW2 actually. I felt GW1 was a lot more like a well played chess match.

Sorry, I really cannot remember it, but sticking my neck out here, I would say no. The mouse was used for moving.

    @grandpab.

Yep, I think the best feature gw1 brought was that skill/knowledge was always improving as you played (more than other games I mean). And thinking was a constant exercise to go past missions (usually when alone and even with groups later on). I loved the minimap feature of pointing and targeting which we have in gw2 o/ horray.

Does GW 1 use a Unreal engine?

Cant confirm it does, but I think their engine is their own.

EDIT: I got this from wikipedia:

    "Game engine
The game engine for Guild Wars was developed by ArenaNet. Engine components developed for Guild Wars are available to be licensed to other NCsoft companies and have been used in other NCsoft games. However, ArenaNet have said they will not license the game engine technology to non-NCsoft companies"
