I think Blizzard launching Mists a month after (and lining up 5.0 on launch day) isn't "good sportsmanship". They don't have to say anything. It's gloating, and it tastes much poorer than any official PR statement to be quite honest.

I'd put that just one step above "We're not in Azeroth anymore", myself.

Meh, different opinions. Game developers are companies, they are trying to sell you a product, if they see a rival launching a product, it makes sense they launch their own in a close time-frame to "compete". That doesn't mean they have to go and hide petty jabs at the opposite product in theirs.

Plenty of big blockbuster movies are released around the same date, and if they are of the same genre they are esentially competing, that doesn't mean either of the publishers are being dicks about it, they're doing their job. But if Movie A has a "freeze-frame bonus" where you can clearly see a sign saying "Movie B sucks", that's just low. its sad really.

Same deal goes with games, plenty of competing games are released within close timeframes, and naturally they're gonna compete, doesn't mean they have to resort to moves like this. Its petty, and its unprofessional.

Please don't go there. I don't really think this is the place to be having a discussion on the merits of another game. Wow has its charms, and its downsides, as does GW2, though this isn't the place to address them (it never ends well).

Actualy movie blockbusters RARELY release at the same time just look at the blockbusters released this year.

I know i'm late, but that Tombstone is Gold imo, its funny, witty and typical Anet smart assery, look at how many jokes, wit and funny conversations are in the game, and who cares if they are /or are not having a little dig at another Dev, geez its a little humor, not serious Business

Ya know, as much as it was a bit of a sour move by blizz to release their patch in the same day GW2 launches............... ArenaNet's response is a hell of a lot worse

Haha, didn't even think of that one.. Well played ANet, well played..

I didn't mind the tombstone at all, I found it quite funny even though I thought they pointed towards people of playing WoW because of the huge time investment, which is not required in GW2.

Nevertheless, the tombstone could be seen in quite some different ways. I really don't get the crying some people are unleashing on forums because of it, not like Blizzard has no humor at all and it's not a direct assault.


EDIT: 8 days and 17 hours until headstart... God, I remember looking at races/classes and seeing quite a few not announced yet and we're already at this point.. Then just seeing some high level gameplay of a charr warrior with 2 axes and some sloppy gameplay recorded by people using a camera and now it's just a bit less than 9 days until it's released.. Shows how time flies.

I actually interpreted it as: Nobody remembers you in wow since your actions don't have any meaning/impact on the world. So the only thing to remember them by is their tombstone. Whilst in GW2 your deeds echo in eternity.

And that's just ONE case, out of several hundreds. Again, because Disney released theirs at the same time as Bluth's movie, doesn't mean they're "gloating" or being jerks. Its called "competition". Now, if The Little Mermaid had a little easter egg, like a character saying "man, the very idea of dogs going to heaven is very stupid" THAT would had been low.
