There are some annoying bugs in this content patch. I was thrown in double encounters while doing the Queen's Gauntlet for my first two fights, so while my enemy was still Halmi Hammerfell, there was another player inside and Windcaller Kieldia. Very confusing, but it never happend again after the first matches.

The queen's champions are another thing. They can easily wipe out smaller towns if you kite them a bit. I found this out in Fields of Ruin, where there are friendly NPCs everywhere. They are hit by the champion's attack and try to defend themselves, unfortunately they don't live long. Had some fun with them in the Summit Peak tent.

Also, I like how events are corresponding with each other, saw some escort events parallel to escorting emissaries to hot-air balloons. NPCs helped each other with all the mobs that spawned for both events.

Well, for the sake of argument I opened my latest batch of champion containers on my MF char (300%) and didn't have any better luck with rares or exotics.

Also, I really wish I'd bought more gems when I had the chance at 3.6g. They just spiked to almost 5g for 100. x_x

5 Gold? O_o Last time I checked it was about tree fiddy...

Seems like I can't check it out on GW2Spidy at the moment... it stopped the recording in June for me...

What are people buying to drive it up? I was figuring on grabbing some gems just because there wasn't really anything new added very recently.

    Ah well.

People are just all converting gold to gems since there's a big spike in how much gold is in the game (because of gauntlet farming)

  6. #31346
The economy seems to be a huge mess due to this latest update.

    Yeah, makes sense.

Not sure why they didn't make the DR harsher for the champions. The ember thing seems easy enough to fix (make failure/ success of the quest the same time-frame).

But maybe they're not worried about the gold/ economy as much. The cost of gems means it's probably easier for folks to buy gold via gems as well.

  8. #31348
I think the problem is that the gap between the have and have-nots will widen. Somewhere, their economy guy said the median for gold gain was like 3 gold. That's a stark contrast to what those farming hardcore are getting. The game already has an issue with the gap between the average player and the 'rich. This leads to the problem where the top percentile manipulate market prices by being able to buy up mass quantities of lower priced goods and resetting the price to their level.

If anything, this may create a new upper-middle class that can afford the new higher prices that the top percentile set, while the vast majority are priced out of those materials.

I don't get why people are saying 3g gold increase isn't much. AFAIK that was said one week after gauntlet release and thus is a very big number. If you say that 1million people actively play, that means 3mil gold was introduced due to one minor patch. This is very sloppy imo.

  10. #31350
Rough estimates on reddit say this living story part has brought in over 9k/h: 14 * 24 * 9 = 3024k (gold) introduced since the queen's gambit stuff went up. This is using cautious estimates...

I've gotten about 1-1.2k out of this event so far.

You all make me wish I was farming so I could get my Bolt. =(

I think if I was farming the same events, by the time I was done I'd probably not want to play the game anymore...

  13. #31353
There's even a discrepancy between farmers. I've made nowhere near 500-1000g. I've made at best 200g (excluding crafting materials) since the patch and that's with doing almost nothing but farming (albeit not always the most efficient ways) since the patch. (I've also had bad luck with exotic drops both in rate and quality.)

Last night I dreamed about bouncing from champion to champion in Frostgorge, so that's not good. x_x I obviously can't do the mechanical farming I used to do, I'm having to take too many extended breaks which is cutting into profits. Frostgorge actually pushes my limits of what I'm willing to do because it's not relaxing at all (gauntlet is even worse, IMO).

In terms of enjoyment I preferred the ground level of the Pavilion and watching loot bags pop up everywhere (though the legendaries take way too long to die), but it seems like a lot of people have moved on from that. I rarely even get into an overflow anymore and most people don't seem to be farming anything below anymore, not even destroyers. I guess they're either doing gauntlet, gorge, or Orr.

I suspect gold->gems is going to skyrocket with the upcoming sale, which is probably why people are stocking up on them now.

  14. #31354
Well, what do you suggest? I really didn't find the gauntlet fun for multiple reasons (having to wait in line, others watching, failing/dying multiple times while trying to perfect fights, etc.) and the only other things I've seen mentioned were Frostgorge and embers, the latter of which as I said was just a bunch of death and chaos. :P

  15. #31355
As long as gauntlet doesn't get nerfed too badly I'll theoretically still make some money off of it using whatever tickets I don't burn on Liadri.

Unrelated, I wish I'd invested more in quartz when I had the chance. I didn't anticipate one person's speculative post on the official forums jacking up the price by almost 1.5s/each. -_-

I just do not see the problem, even if people manipulate the market, so what, and tbh the GW2 AH is just saturated anyway, it works both ways, if you're poor and you have a load of crappy mats you want to shift, at least you'll get more money as well. I was loaded in that ohter MMO, because of the server side AH I controlled certain markets, its not really the same in GW2. To me there is no problem.

I find it interesting when people talk about manipulating the market in WoW. I was quite well off and I never had to play the AH. Wealth was easily accumulated due to the fact that high levels were lazy and would grossly overpay for things. Being an altoholic was actually extremely profitable if you had 2x gathering skills and sold everything.

Not much in GW2 below level 80 is worth anything, in fact, as you level the only things worth selling are if you get lucky with RNG on herb nodes. At least that's been my experience. I end up having to vendor most of the gear drops. Ore and wood barely sell for enough to bother gathering them. Salvaging is terrible. It's not like enchanting (WoW) or runebreaking (Rift) where the materials you get are useful and sell well, usually it's worth less than what you would have gotten just vendoring the piece (even whites).

I bought about 1k of quartz. Guessed it would go up a bit because of the lack of availability. Missed the 1.5s price though

I think in GW2 it's about gradual accumulation. I have spent about 1.2k of gold on gems so far. Most of that came from either selling my precursor drop (310g) or selling the raw mats and rares/exotics that I get from events. I run a full MF set and normally do about 5-10 events per day. The quicker ones. I also explore a bit and finish off what's left of my dailies. I haven't done any farming of the arena although I did get 3 lodestones doing the daily queens events. I am not really too concerned about gold. I did have to sell some laurels (through inks), my stash of globs, orch ore and some of the rarer T6 items to get enough for the unlimited axes but that was the only time I was pushed a bit.

I never really played the AH in WoW. I hoarded most of my mats, made what I needed and never really wanted for much. When I quit, I unloaded the stuff from my bank and it brought me like 150k, though I kept some stuff in case I ever return (can't waste Khorium...).

I did have fun seeing how high folks would pay for a Lifelike Mechanical Toad at various points. Mats cost around 5-10g I think and I was selling them for 300 at one point, I think they got even higher around the achievement's system release and I imagine there was a big jump when pet battles were introduced.

Too many folks would post something to the TP just to clear it out of their bags while adventuring, so a lot of stuff just never really became profitable.
