If this was towards the start of the game I would disagree. However with the recent changes to water gameplay in general Anet has taken I am inclined to agree. They had a great plan and idea for underwater but failed in execution and for some reason just gave up (probably because of the lack of interest from player base about underwater in general) though I still feel like they could change players mind about underwater exploration and combat if they just did it right.

Underwater combat is better in gw2 than in most mmos, but something about fighting in 3 dimensions just doesn't seem to click with most folks. Movement during underwater combat sill feels a bit clunky due to some of the moves. Like people seem to dislike the Aquatic ruins fractal since it's all underwater (and dark).
Exploring underwater is cool I just don't really like fighting underwater too much. I mean sometimes it's really cool and other times it feels off.

Aquatic ruins fractal is hated because it is one of the most thoughtless lazy developed encounter in this game. The jellyfish boss is literally just bloated HP mob. It is a horrible representation of underwater in general.
Like I said Anet had a great idea and plan but failed in execution and just lobbed off the useless arm instead of fixing it.

One of the chief things that keeps me grenades as an engineer is that I don't have to change what I'm doing when I go underwater, and you stay at the same level of power underwater as above. I think most people avoid it because they are optimized for land combat, know what they are doing during land combat, and would like to avoid the hassle of learning something different, and re-optimizing , for very narrow situations.
Sorry but grenades underwater are vastly more powerful then above water.
Really though underwater shouldn't have stopped at just under water only weapons. There should have been underwater only utility skills, elite, and traits. There was no point in only stopping half way with just weapons and trying to mesh everything else together (that have no relation to underwater)

Anet, why are you so stupid. You got my hopes up within the first sentence, then you say something stupid. Wasn't this how it was suppose to be? That the big wind up attacks being constant and the real danger and having to counter them by avoiding it somehow?Lots of nice comments here. I, too, have a strong dislike for the Defiant/Unshakable system. Internally we’ve kicked around a lot of ideas about how to change it. The problem is that making large sweeping changes to the game is a bit like moving a table that you built a Jenga™ tower on—it takes time, planning, and a lot of care to do it.
We’ve made big changes before, though. This one is on our list to address.
In the mean time it’s great to see some discussion over alternatives as well as some specific examples where existing alternatives work.
Personally (by which I mean not representing the entire development team) I’d like to see at least one boss with a sort of reverse defiance. Generally immune to CC except in windows during one or two keys attacks with a long warmup. I think the theory behind Defiance would work well if everyone knew exactly when to interrupt. This is a troublesome prospect for the ad-hoc groups that GW2 promotes in various settings, so maybe shifting the responsibility to the boss (which everyone is already paying attention to) would work out a little better. “He’s winding up for super-mega-attack, everyone stun now!”
Discuss?

What's a shame about water combat is that there are some gorgeous spears and tridents in the game that don't get to be seen much because they are underwater items. Like, I dunno who would waste their time on Legendary underwater weapons unless they didn't have anything left to do or craft.

SO I just discovered the other day that if you take off your breather and jump in the water you still don't drown... It's a completely pointless piece of equipment![]()

I mean some people may just love underwater combat. It is rather well defined compared to every other MMO that has ever tried it. I don't love it, but it's a nice change every now and then.

Like I said. They stopped half way, well not even half way more like 1/8th of the way there. There needs to be:
-Separate trait line(s) only active underwater
-Separate gear (not just weapons)
-Separate utility skills (6-0)
-Separate everything
They tried to just do weapons and then mesh everything together hoping it would work out but... no. If you are going to segregate underwater then you to go full on.

I always forget my underwater stuff :') It's pretty sad. Those are usually the last thing I update, I've been playing fractals with a level 20 trident before when I just got my mesmer to 80 the day before. Oops! Gladly I found a rare underwater in a few minutes hahahahah.
So I've been playing for the last few days and having a great time. I come and go, which is complete feasible in this game, but I have missed a fair share of content along the way. My wife commented she was glad I was playing and has always felt like that MMO was designed for my play style these days. I think it is true to an extent for the same reason LotRO is also a personal favorite. The ability to log on, experience the world, and not really give a flip about anything else is great. I go up and down with various MMOs, but I always feel like saying positive things is something I don't get to do enough. I thought I'd toss them some bones for gems as well, because I like supporting their dev model and price structure. *rambleoff*

Indeed. Season 1 was problematic for me because when I did try and experience content I felt rushed and pressured to not stop playing GW2 ever otherwise I was abandoning content. It made the world feel dynamic at the expense of making me alienated from it. I think their solution for S2 is elegant and helps me enjoy it that much more. It's actually had the inverse effect...I logged on to unlock the content, then wound up playing it. Now I can't stop playing the game. I've even been neglecting my Steam games to play GW2 for all of my limited free hours. Those clever devs.
BAD WOLF
Geeez, you're such a negative nancy!
Personally as much as I like things about GW2, the Living Story is what keeps me interested and playing. But I do really need them to stop putting things in their gemstore that I want >< I occasionally feel like whoever is in charge of it has tapped into my brain and goes "ok guys, Arlee isn't planning on buying gems this month so we need to put in x".
On a related note... the color swatches... BEST THING EVER. It's really awesome to scroll through and see all the reds and see what you already have/what the new things look like.
