This isn't some shooter where all "classes" are about the same thing...

What would be the point in an MMO like that really, please do give us a reason why it's a good idea.

Every profession plays differently unlike all the FPS' that you bringing up to say it's a good idea from...

if you want to be able to switch on the spot... better make the game with just 1 class...

Also... its a MMORPG... by allowing you to switch classes on the spot it completely ruins the RPG part of the game...

Now, what they could do is:

Player has 2 characters level 80, he gets into PvP, in the few moments before battle starts he can choose to switch to his other character if he wants, after battle starts you cant.

I would be OK with that, but allowing us to only have 1 character and simply class change at will is kinda stupid mainly from the RPG standpoint...

You can already get your level 1 character boosted to level 80 to be able to compete even at low level, if we had a system like that, they might as well make PVE and PVP 2 separate games all together...

I've given several of my own opinions as to why I believe it's a bad idea, as have others. Just because you're too lazy to read them, doesn't mean that no one has given any reasons as to why they think it's a bad idea. If you're not going to post something constructive, please don't bother posting.

oh yes i agree i would be BAD. i dont see it happening though

He suggested an ability to switch your profession (class) in PvP (aside from WvWvW), as you're already given max level and standardized stats, to save the PvPers the time from having to switch characters (and potentially money, in the case of character slots). This would essentially make every character every Profession in PvP.

I was surprised when I noticed how much support the idea seemed to be getting, mainly because I think it's quite terrible. While I approve of ArenaNet evening the PvP field in terms of gear, so that PvP can be focused on skill instead of gear, I'm completely against the idea of an ability to switch professions in PvP. As convenient as it might be, it would remove the last sense of an RPG from PvP, and turn it into TF2 with MMO-like gameplay.

So, two questions here, one for an opinion and one for fact. What do you think of the idea to be able to switch your profession in PvP game modes? And does structured/hot-join PvP offer any sort of character rewards (ranks, titles, etc.)?
Don't really care either way, but no way Anet is going to do that since they want to sell character slots. You need to understand that all GW1 PvP titles were account wide and I suppose GW2 PvP titles will be account wide too. Like HOM titles/rewards will be account wide. Don't see the big deal some ppl are making out of this like "OMG that's stupid" when for example achievements will be account wide in GW2.

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement
Achievements are part of an account-wide award system that gauges what a player has accomplished in the game. There are many ways players can acquire achievements: from killing particular monsters, to mastering weapons and participating in mini-games. When an achievement is won, it is completed for the entire account, removing the need to complete the same goal across different characters. Achievements are split into eight main categories, and are then ranked by tiers. As players progress through each tier, they become more difficult to master. Certain categories will require more than one character to complete.[1]

ok, people are forgetting the type of gameplay used in GW2, it is like MTG where you choose your deck before battle then adjust to the conditions on the field with what you HAVE got. so changing professions in the match is a non-starter. this also goes for changing elites and changing weapon sets in competitive PvP. remember the devs said that they only allowed the swapping of elites and weapons at the conventions to showcase the pvp, when the game ships you will NOT be able to switch weapons or elites at anytime during the match in or out of combat. so it is safe to assume that the same would be applied to swapping profession at any time during the match.

it's sad how people forget that the devs said it's not about the profession you play that matters but HOW WELL you play that profession. so basically master the profession that plays closest to your playstyle because changing profession won't magically make you a better player. ADAPT with what you have or DIE!

you can get a decent comp for 600-700 dollars.

You rly just wanna make sure it has a decent cpu (i3/similar level AMD processor), above average graphics card, and 8GB of ram. I'd say you could build your own, but unless you actually know how to put one together it's prob not worth the trouble

I think it's less making it a big deal, and more disagreeing with the idea. It's never going to happen either way, as you've said, for various reasons.

Never knew that GW PvP titles were account wide, nor that achievements in GW2 would be as well, though. I suppose it makes the idea a bit less ridiculous.

I saw something like PvP progression a page back or so, it was about gear and such. Myself I've been playing WoW for forever. And if I don't start pvping early in an expansion, I'll fall behind ALOT all of a sudden everyone I face will have 2k resi and I'm at 1k, it sucks that you just fall behind so quick and easy.
Colin (or whatever his name is) did say before in an interview that when you do better in pvp your gear changes but not the stats. It gets pimped. Different "cooler" look, just showing who has done good or not.
This is in a way progression but maybe not for all, but enough for me.

One thing i worry about in PvP is the spell effects.

E.g, Is this fire i'm standing in my allies or my enemies or will shooting through this static field apply to my projectiles or am i wasting my time on an enemies static field?

I know wow coloured certain spell effects so we know at a glance if they are ours or the enemies.

Does anyone know if theres something like this in guild wars 2?

I dont know if there is anything right now but your armor automatically gets colored red or blue, so i could imagine spell effects having a red or blue tint atleast

damaging effects have a red ring around them. so you can instantly see if they will be bad for your health.

spells and effects in pvp are color coded with an outline depending on the source; if it is white that means it is friendly like Flamewall and you can use it to combo off of with projectiles, if it is blue that means it's an enemy spell/effect that does not do any damage to you like healing rain, and if it is red that means it's an enemy spell/effect and it will do damage to you.

There is not a single game that you need 6GB of ram for let alone 8GB.

Quick question here: Is there a way to sign up with arenanet or guildwars2.com for beta? Or do we have to wait until they announce the open beta will be to sign up then?

I'm pretty sure we have to wait for them to announce it.

The quickest way to receive info about the Beta will be signing up for their newsletter on the main site of Guild Wars 2.
They've stated (somewhere) that the announcement and signup process will be made available through the newsletter first, if i remember correctly.

    Good to know! Makes sense. Guess I'm going to have to start checking my e-mail more often. (;
