Haven't played gw1 in like 2 weeks, when you're done with hoM you're done i guess, though i like the game a lot still, but meh.
A dev stated in a reddit Q&A that they would invite tens of thousands over the course of the beta.
The invites will be sent out over the next couple of days.
They will select people before every beta weekend, so if you don't get in for the first one you could quite possibly get in on the next one.
Also don't forget that if you pre-purchase the game (not pre-order) you will have guaranteed access to all beta events after this first one, so if you don't get in through an invite you can still be in the beta.
Something I found amusing from Blizzard:
Am I the only one who immediately wanted to respond "But that's exactly what GW2 will be doing, and it still looks fun."So what should happen is that when you join Arena you get a full set of Gear and when you leave it, you no longer have that set
So you would like to see standardized stats and gear for all who enter arena so that the gear you have earned does not affect your performance? This could cause a large number of the PvP community to stop arena as they would no longer see a result of earning their new shiny gear, I agree that the standardized gear would make the playing-field more even but where would I be able to let loose with all of my awesome new gear? :’( How could such a problem be remedied?
I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.
Rift tried that and PVP players backlashed. They wanted disparity. Indeed the lead developer of one the most popular PVP games just recently made a statement about the falsity of pan scale balance. The concept is, as always, a corruption.
No. Morello was merely talking about PVP balance in a MOBA not an MMO. However, the principles apply to any PVP where inequity of stats, opportunity and options applies.
As balance in PVP is often conceptualized by players as a pan scale. Morello called it a "False Expectation" flat out. Disparity is inherent when gear and stat differences are at play. Equalizing those discrepancies is not necessarily great game design.
Ah, interesting...thanks.

A quick question about GW1 - I've only played it a little...started with prophecies and am about on the 5th mission. It seems like, for the missions at least, that the format is to run across a map along a pretty well defined path...in fact, it's difficult/impossible to deviate from the path - and there's little point in doing so. Is this how all of the missions go?
Yh...that's true. I wasn't really going for innuendo
Don't worry..../pat pat the majority of us here are somewhat "old" I think lol.
Interesting.
I was planning to make a thread on this very subject just yesterday but didn't get round to it. Was going to ask if perhaps Anet had erred in thier understanding of pvp. POWAH! n such. Perhaps people simply don't want to be equalized. I'm sure it's been thoroughly discussed already though.
I just hope they're marketing to a more discerning audience who can see past the pvp powah trip.

Not really, no. Anet are making PVP as close to a level playing field as possible. Which is what PVP is supposed to be ideally.
I mean games with 1:1 [or at the lease 1:1.1] PVP are still super popular in other genres. We just have a lot of inherited baggage in MMOs from systems that were never intended to support PVP. That's where we get into the disaster that has been PVP in MMOs for roughly 14 years.
A level playing field for PVP play shouldn't really be a big deal- it's rather popular/desired even.
I'd bet most are in their 20s or mid 20s. At least based on displayed experience & knowledge.
Huummm...I dunno. I've met many pvp focused ppl who are somewhat..well, power trippy for lack of a better expression and coffee...and want to really feel that sense of superiority and accomplishment through better gear etc. It may be baggage, and generally catering pvp to a younger audience and all that would inherently bring.
Personally, I love the level playing field. And agree that it should be like that in an ideal state. I just fear that many do pvp for the ego trip of beating another player...and enjoy an upper hand in doing so.
GW2 pvp will definitely do wonders to catering for, and fostering, truely competitive pvp though. And getting rid of epeening ego trippers. To quote Top Gun: "your ego's writing cheques ur body can't cash". That will truly be the case.
I'm sure we'll find out in-game n suchI'm early 80s.

Ah, yes. In that respect I think perhaps GW2 will fail such players. Pretty okay with that and I am sure Anet/Riot/InfintiyWard are as well.
There exist the MW3 to the CS 1.6, to use two very popular games, for example. So too are there Rifts/TORs/WOWs out there to suit such desires.
