We're having our house built and I've not seen one person with a hardhat on. I was just wondering to myself if it wasn't a thing when building houses.. but then there you are. And with a vest.

Well I'm building a huge apartment complex with hundreds of units, and the general contractor (like any good general contractor) is serious about ppe and safety. We've already had a framer almost get knocked down from 4 stories, and a guy got a piece of glulam fall on him and had to go to the hospital. On a small job like a single house you can get away with whatever, but not on a big job.

Query, are single-pane windows more common in CA than double-panes?

Up here in WA, almost everything newer that I've seen is double-pane, due to the winters. But during my brief time living in the San Diego area, every house I looked at, including the place I ended up renting, had single-pane windows.
