It has been a while since I have built a computer but I have never done one for online gaming. I was wondering if i could get some input from others on what they think about this set up.

your cpu is heavily out-dated and can be considered over-priced for the performance it is producing. If money is an issue, I recommend the x6 1055t or 1075t chips and they are only 30-40 dollars more.

Your motherboard is solid, stick with it.

gpu is more expensive than it should be. You can get a 6850 or 6870 that are cheaper and outperform it.

power supply is solid, but leaves little room for crossfire in the future. If you plan on doing that, get the 750 one for more amps.

hard drive is a mediocre performer. You can get a seagate 500 gb or the samsung 7200's that perform much better and are only 10 dollars more. I can link them if interested.

disk drive good, heat sink good, and the case eh. Get the cooler master or antec cases for 50 something dollars, much better.

Get G Skill Ripjaw series memory. Same pricing, better performance.

This will last you longer and is the most affordable. I recommend the 1075t or 1095t. There is only a 10 dollar price difference between the two. There is a 1055t for $170 but it is quite inferior to the above 2, yet far superior to the one you linked. Here are the threee.

Why push the six-core CPU? I don't think the OP is going to need six cores, as two will never be used concerning most games. The Phenom X4 955 Black Edition will be plenty fast and won't be a bottleneck for years to come in games.

I say stick with the 955 Black Edition, you can overclock it pretty well if you want to. Really no use is wasting a six-core processor if you're not doing any truly multi-threaded tasks.

Everything else though is fine. I'd go with the 6870 (though I wouldn't go with Sapphire, that's just me) and the Centurion 5 case. A solid case overall. I also wouldn't go with a Gigabyte motherboard, but again, that's me. I'm vehemently against Gigabyte. If anything, I'd spend the extra money and get an AM3+ motherboard so you can upgrade to Bulldozer when it drops, would be a worthwhile investment.

1) Take up Wildemu's suggestions on the HDD, Memory and Case
2) You picked a case that already comes with a 550w PSU, then you linked a TX650w PSU on top of that o_O. Just get one of the cases that Wildemu suggested.
3) Good PSU choice, TX650 gives more than enough power for your system. I wouldn't recommend planning to go crossfire, it can cause more trouble than it's worth when it comes to scaling issues, ingame support and crashes. It's far wiser to invest in the best possible single-GPU card you can afford now and stick with it till your next PC upgrade. So if you think you can wait and save up for a GTX560 in the short-term, you should do it.

4) Build something worthy of 2011. Make these changes:

Uhhh... neither is futureproof at all. The six-core is pretty terrible compared to the quad-core anyway and useless unless things are multi-threaded to use six threads, or even five. Games won't be using more than four cores any time soon, nor in the next couple years as game technology is behind real technology.

OT: Im not sure ... but for 40$ this case+Psu combo seem almost impossible maybe its a typo ... anyway the case look good (even for 40$, if it doesnt come with a PSU its still a good deal) but try to get the TX V2! 650W instead of the original TX.

Edit : Lol i looked at the case+psu combo customer reviews and actually it does really come with a PSU but it seems thats a very veryyyy BADDD PSU .. die after 2 week , doesnt come with 8pin connector for the CPU, doesnt work right off the box etc .. anyway this case actually worth 40$ imo. So if you like the look just go for it.

AMD's 6 Core's are hardly fantastic for gaming.. Take this from someone who owns one. Even if in the next 5-6 years they allow games to use more than 4 threads, the clock for clock performance will be so horrible on the Thuban it won't even matter how many bloody cores it has. The most you can typically expect out of hardware nowadays is 2-4 years tops depending on what you buy. Sure it will last but the performance will be severely limited by the time you get to that point.

The Video card and Ram are overclocked, unless your board and powersupply can run the overclock it may cause problems.

The board is a bit outdated you could get a better asus board pretty cheap.
The tower could go instead with antec 600 or 900.

But it should be ok, double check the board etc for compatibility to overclocked ram and the overclocked video card.
