[Music] Metalheads, what else do you listen too?

Most of us metal heads live and breath the stuff, whether we be thrash purists or black metal connoisseurs, for most of us that are passionate about our metal we listen to the stuff non-stop..... but one cannot subsist on metal alone.

So what are you guys listening to when you're not listening to metal?

For me..... Trance...... Like I listen to Metal and Trance pretty exclusively, I have some other stuff thrown in my library from johnny be good to Bruce Springsteen as well as The Killers but my collection of Trance almost dwarfs my collection of metal.

    There are metal-trance combined bands.

I've got some songs from Live (rock), Muse (spacerock), Riverside (progrock) and my dirty, dirty pleasure: The Veronicas - Untouched

Last time I counted, I have over 20 different genres on my playlist. And no, that's not 20 different types of metal ;P

Classical (including stuff like Philip Glass in here for ease)
    Jazz
Rock (like Killing Joke) or Post Rock or whatever all that Post stuff is supposed to be anyway (like Mogwai)
    Industrial (like Skinny Puppy)
some Pop (mostly the stuff that will never get near a no.1 spot like Modest Mouse or Six Nation State)
Punk or Hardcore (as in, hardcore punk, not that stuff-with-no-guitars-that-copied-their-entire-imagery-from-metal-that-people-call-hardcore)
    Blues
    Avantgarde (like Sleepytime Gorilla Museum)
Grunge (like Alice in Chains. Actually pretty much solely Alice In Chains)
    Prog (like King Crimson)
Rap (nothing near main-stream, such as Cannibal Ox or Aesop Rock)

I'll just leave it at this for now though.

I'll listen to Skrillex, The Prodigy and Pendulum outside of Metal.
Then Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, The Pretty Reckless.. But I try and keep it pretty heavy tbh, I can't stand much outside metal at all, most of it is so fake I want to punch a kitten.
I'll slap you so hard you'll feel like you've kissed a Freight Train..

Outside of metal (and when I say metal, I mean all kinds of metal, so it is still a wide variety between prog, metalcore, thrash, power ect), I dont find that I listen to a lot else. Maybe a bit of rap or a bit of rock (but usually hard rock that could also be classified as metal). The only other thing I'll regularly listen to is comedy music, the midnight beast, the lonely island ect.

Outside of metal the little bit of Trance I hear every now and then sounds pretty good but I haven't taken the time to listen to it much yet - except Pendulum, or am I wrong to categorize it under trance? as I said I haven't taken the time to get to know the genre well yet - the terms Trance, Techno and Drum 'n' Bass are pretty much the same to me at this point.

Also a big fan of trailer/soundtrack music - Two Steps From Hell as a prime example.

Pendulum is Drum and Base... whatever the hell that means. Trance is such a massive genre because it's so accessible to artists, all you need is a program, some basic musical concepts and time. A State of Trance but Armin Van Buuren is a good place to start, but the utter mellowness and new-age hippie feel of a lot of the stuff in the Trance genre is too much for a lot of metal heads

Dubstep and Trance. I haven't actually listened to any good metal in a while, nothing new has popped up for me. You can only listen to the classics for so long ;(

I've kind of gone off straight up metal and have branched into industrial metals and the more technical stuff, djent, prog etc.
Outside of metal, I listen to mainly dnb and trance, but enjoy jazz, classical, some dubstep, and a lot of hiphop/rap.

I'm sorry, what? Paramore, BB and Pretty Reckless pretty heavy? Lmao. You don't have a clue what Metal is, don't you? All those bands you just named are rock, or pop-rock. You disgust me with your ignorance.
    Ad Hominem - Achtung!
Try that, and tell me I'm wrong if I say it's heavy.

I listen to a lot of post-rock and punk.

Other than Metal, I usually just listen to J-Rock.

I'm into Melodeath, Black, Doom and many other sub-genres of metal.
I listen to a LOT of Electronic music if I'm not listening to metal such as Uplifting Trance, Intellegent Dance Music (IDM), EBM, Aggrotech, Psytrance and Industrial.
