    Computer Help Please

A few friends I meet in college this semester convinced me that I should get back into WoW and play with them, so I am looking for ideas on what components are best to buy for a desktop computer. My laptop runs the game too slow for my tastes, especially since I enjoy raiding more than anything else. I'm relatively clueless about computers, so I'm looking for advice on what components I should buy - something that will play the game at least decently for 25 mans but is also not too pricey. Please help!!!

For 25 mans you're going to need a fairly decent computer unless you want to run on low settings with projected textures off. A price range would give a better idea. Or you could just check this post:

Includes low cost, okay performance up to moderate cost and quite good performance. None of the builds are particularly expensive compared to what you might pay for a similar machine off the shelf. You can also mix and match between those builds, but you'll have to make sure that the Mobo supports the RAM and CPU.

I know a good friend of mine built a fairly nice computer 2 years ago for 800 bucks, and I think I'd be looking at around that price range.

You can build a decent computer for $800 yea.
Newegg has a pretty awesome combo deal going right now:

and throw on a good graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125353
If you plan on overclocking (which you should... makes a huge difference) you should get an aftermarket cooler...
I got this one and it works great: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835209049
That's a little under $800 and completely beast for that price... but you'll need a monitor and a "genuine" Windows 7 operating system too.

i agree completely with taekvideo but i would suggest this cooler
    newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185142&Tpk=scmg-2100

its the best cooler for the price range and is right under top coolers if you get an extra fan for push pull

    Just get this for cooling.
    http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Coolin...5370194&sr=8-2
It's quieter and out performs most high end air coolers on the market.

Nope the H50 wont. Get a Proklimatech (Genesis or Super Mega) or a Noctua (Nh-d14 or Nh-c14) they will crush the H50 + they are only about 10$ expensiver

Only buy a New cooler if you are going to overclock (if you get a Sandybridge core) the stock cooler still works great till a certain point (around 4,3).

EDIT: About the fan noise. You almost can't hear the Noctua even if he starts to get at his maximum rpm

With your budget in mind, you should look at the Intel Core i5-2500k for your CPU and AMD Radeon 6800 or 6900 series for your graphics. ASUS, MSI, and ASRock have great motherboards out with the new EUFI BIOS (no more blue screen, keyboard only BIOS). Make sure you get the P67 chipset, not H67/61.

I highly suggest a Cooler Master HAF series or Storm Scout for a case. Antec 300 or 900 is also a good pick. For your power supply, good brands are Seasonic, Corsair, Cooler Master, Antec. You'll need at least 550 watts. Anything over 700w will be overkill for your budget.

If you don't plan on reusing your hard drive, pick up a Western Digital Black Caviar. If you want an aftermarket cooler, I highly suggest the Cooler Master Hyper 212. You don't need to spend more than $30 in this department. I'm personally using a Xigmatek Loki SD963. $25 with free shipping on newegg.com. Aftermarket cooler is really just optional and don't fret if you can't fit it into your build right now.
