Anyone finished the Mage College quest chain on the PC? I'm on the dwemer ruins part and I can't figure out how to solve the light puzzle. I tried moving the three circles in the path of the beams just as the light is moving see if it would reflect, but nothing. I have no idea how to solve this thing... don't tell me it's bugged.
I cant even finish the very first lesson quest in there. The guy asked me to put up a mage barrier up while he casted a firebolt at me, right...And thats it, nothing happens whatever i do, i even fireball'ed the entire college into oblivion and the quest never progresses.
People take stupidity to a whole new level when they sit in front of a computer.

That one takes standing in a certain spot so he can toss his spell at you. try standing directly in front of him, a few meters away

Oh, that puzzle is a pain in the ass. Basically, you shoot frostbite and flames (frostbite in one hand, flames in the other) at the orb in the middle to move the lights around until each light is able to be reflected by one of the mirrors. You can then move the mirrors into position with the 3 levers.

There's a bug in Windhelm that makes a certain quest-chain to do with murders break and this can prevent you owning the property. There is a work-around using console commands but I'm going to have to catch the actual story next time through :-/

Out of interest though, what are the console commands to do things like give you armor, weapons, or other things? (Like once Shadowmere died from falling and i had to load a save 10 minutes prior - but i hear console commands can give you a shiny new Shadowmere).

I accidently enchanted a couple of Ebony Swords without renaming them so I used the console commands to give my self a fresh pair and enchanting mats.

Edit: sorry for replying to a (relatively) old post, I'll leave this here anyway.

    Mind posting the commands?

I sided with the Stormcloaks and no matter what I do he just won't murder that one women that allows me to start the quest

Yes you can. There's even instructions how and where to place the downloaded files into your computer with most mods. Works well with steam.

On a different note, does anyone know why we're not allowed a subforum for Skyrim? I asked, and all i got was a "It'll never happen." But why? What's the reason?

It's a single player RPG. The hype wont keep up for too long. This thread in itself is only half as active as the first week Skyrim came out.

Well then, can someone hand me a link to a mod that can "enhance" Skyrim with better performance? I'm having weird lags for no reason.

This. Single-player RPGs, by their very nature, lose hype quickly. Like Zafire said, the traffic to this thread alone has slowed down considerably in just a few weeks. I used to check this thread every 10-20 minutes and there'd be a handful of new posts, now I'm lucky to see that many every 1-2 hours.

Not to mention that, once the Creation Kit patch hits, we'll be able to upload and download mods directly through Steam.

You ask for more? Then come, traveler, to the Whispering Deep, where only the mad walk.

I don't see the need to funnel absolutely everything related to Skyrim into one single post. This guy wants to make a poll, that needs a new post to work.

    To the poster:

My 1st time through I went with Imperial as Hadvar seemed like a decent guy and I was just slipping through the cracks with having my head taken off by that angry black woman.

I have yet to choose a side after that though. I don't like what the imperials are doing, but I also don't like the KKK mentality of the Stormcloaks.

Always go with the empire because:
    - the stormcloaks are racists
    - the thalmor WANT skyrim to break off the empire, as then they would just faceroll the province as it doesn't stand a chance against the aldmeri dominion. Not even the empire could defeat the thalmor, what chance does skyrim alone have ?
    - the empire can't stand against the aldmeri dominion if it becomes divided
    - separating from the empire ? Skyrim FOUNDED the empire as it's the birthplace of Talos aka Tiber Septim, the 1st emperor. Slyrim IS the empire. They weren't a province conquered by cyrodiil or anything. What foolishness is this ?!?
    - ulfric stormcloak is a fool and a racist, playing on the frustrations of the nords to further his own foolish goals.

The empire had to forbid the worship of Talos and allow thalmor judiciars to investogate within empire teritory, as part of the treaty signed at gun point . It wasn't something the emperor decided out of the blue just to oppress the nords. Something the nords are too proud to understand. Pride kills people.
Ok I think I am going Imperial now! Mostly I want to kill Thalmor and LOVE coming across Thalmor groups escorting prisoners.

Iv done that, multiple times, i get there everytime i get into the game to play to check if he hasnt decided to teach me.
In fact, since that bug happened, i have been using those magic shields ALL the time, they are amazing, they save me a lot of quick loads.

If you want to fight them, why join the side that already surrendered to them? The Stormcloaks want to do what the Hammerfall resistance is doing-continue to resist. The cause is worth fighting for and dying for. The Imperials want to roll over and be Thalmor slaves. They gave up. If you're attacking Thalmor agents to free prisoners, you're doing the opposite of what the empire wants.

Ulfric wants to reclaim the homeland of his people from an invading aggressor race. Other races who want to live peacefully within Skyrim he is happy to have. His responsibilities do not center on them, however, but on his own people. Calling Ulfric racist when he's the one standing up to genocidal oppression is crazy to me.

Ulfric is racists bastard who only cares about himself. He uses the pretense of "freeing" the nord from the oppresive Thalmor as a cloak to hide his true intention. The empire had to bow down to the Thalmor. It was that or get completely own'd. Which would you rather do? Keep your people save by banning the worship of a god or getting steamrolled? I'd go the option that saves lives. As someone else said earlier in the thread, Pride kills.

Have you been to Windhelm and seen how Dunmer are treated there? Not to mention all Nords are pretty much racist against elves.
