Back with the introduction of battlegrounds in vanilla WoW, I felt my prayers were answered, instant PvP
action against alliance scum! Me and my friends dominated the BGs and so did the horde in the
rest of EU and US. But we dominated too hard and it was evident that almost all with
that little extra were most probably playing horde. The alliance rarely were a
threat beyond the levelrange of twinking. I shunned alliance players, thinking their player base
were actual people I wouldn't want to socialise with in real life...
That is why it struck me so hard when blood elves were added to the horde. A simple ploy to
drain the higher populated alliance into the horde. To balance out the win/loss ratio, to kill
any possible imbalance the factions might have had for having exclusive paladins/shamans. There
was also the draenei of alliance, a race with hooves, fangs, horns, muscles to perhaps attract
the skilled horde base to alliance. The draenei as I am sure we can all agree on, failed to
fulfil their role.
While the blood elves became 30%-60% of the horde population(depending on server) it was not
enough to turn the tides as the majority of the skilled horde players were still doing their
thing, domination.
Frustrated, the blizzard staff revamped Alterac Valley, making it into a PVE zerg, leaving the
horde defense full of holes. Horde are forced to play defensivly or lose fast as the alliance
crusade go straight for Drek'thar while their own base is protected by archers, NPCs and the
famous bridge. Doesn't matter how much horde has brought this up on the forums, the devs have
always claimed it is balanced, working as intended.
Also healers increasingly became the most powerful role in PvP by far, the easiest playstyle in
the game?
Blizzard, not content with ripping out the elves from alliance, making alterac valley unfair
and buffing healers went even further in wrath of the lich king. All of a sudden, siege engines
everywhere, the focus on siege engines did nothing but strip those BGs of skill and add more
focus on tunnel visioning + of course another PvE zerg fest objective(Isle of conquest).
In cataclysm after the failure with Draenei blizzard gave alliance worgen. Most of us might remember
the allianceish alpha-build worgen that attracted the furry community. Then they were
redone to look more sinister and hordeish. Why was worgen changed when the furry community was
crying in joy? To once again try pulling the true horde base to alliance ranks?
Conclusion and TL;DR, Blizzard stripped WoW of skill by having the easiest role(healers) be the
most powerful, also the siege engines and PVE zerg fest battlegrounds. Scrambled the faction
populations to balance win/loss ratio in BGs, killing the spirit of both factions.
They did all of this cause they get/keep more happy subscribers for less work.
While all of the above upsets me. I do not blame Blizz, they want to make money like any other company.
Thank you for reading, I posted a similar thread on the WoW EU forums and it was mysteriously
deleted. I hope I did not offend anyone.
