The random queue awards you the VPs because you're agreeing to help out any party the system needs to put you in. The system is so popular you often get fresh runs, but some times you have to help out a dungeon in progress. Helping out these dungeons is what the random system does. It is why you get the VPs.
If you do not agree to helping out other parties who have lost a member and need to fill a gap, you need to queue for a specific dungeon. You're not getting the VPs, but thats because you're not helping out the system. You will however get a full clear.
You do not get VPs because "its random therefore harder to know the tactics", you're getting VPs because you're helping out the system complete parties who are short on members.
