Then you have the King of all 2600K chips. Mine is unstable at 1.5 and just about everybody else's I've heard of has similar results. Enjoy that little baby, just don't burn it up

So I opted to finally push it. Maybe I'll get somewhere higher up this time around.
Only floating around 4.0 GHz, but I like the voltage so far.

1.192v is probably just standard overvolting for 4ghz, it's hard to say anything amazing about the chip until you push it to atleast 4.5 and then see volts. Even then the chip could have an extremely steep drop-off-point past 4.5-4.6 (like mine).

It's manual, and auto-voltage was around 1.24v at the same multiplier. c.c

By the wayyyy, Fuzzykins told me last night all of his threads can pretty much be considered dead as he's more or less moved on from this forum. So he won't be updating this anymore.

If this is true I would have no problem creating a new OC'ing Leaderboard thread and keeping it updated!

I'm thinking one of us mods can take this over and keep it updated. When I can get on IRC later and talk to them I'll see what we come up with.

Responding late here but to clear things up, putting a chunk of voltage through the chip won't instantly explode it assuming you have adequate cooling. But leaving it like that for extended periods of time will indeed slice down the life of the chip, possibly enough that it could die in less than 1/10th it's lifespan i.e. less than a year, or maybe even just a few months.
All overclocking and overvolting shortens the chip's lifespan but the theory is that it's still more than enough for the chip to last years and years, atleast till your next upgrade.

So if you've got some kickass cooling, no harm in pushing your chip to 1.5-1.6v or even 1.7v just for a *short* amount of time to see exactly what your chip is capable of at those voltages (some have almost touched 6ghz at 1.6v). Although there are some rumors floating around of people who did that, and their chips "didn't feel the same after that". o_O

But say e.g. you KNOW you're going to upgrade the chip in less than 2 years. Considering CPU's can easily last 10+ years (I've personally never run into a computer where the CPU died, still got my IBM Aptiva from 1998 and it freaking WORKS), could you push your chip to say...1.6v and have it last long enough for your next upgrade? Wonder if anyone's graphed this :P

In response to Xuvial's very intriguing post...

If I get a job soon, I'll do exactly that. I plan to get Ivybridge, I've just been holding off on trying to OC more because I don't have money to replace it if I break it. :P But yeah I'd like to see how it does. I wonder though what kind of cooling one would need for some of those really high voltages, surely liquid or even more? x_x I am not doing liquid nitrogen... lol

If the Zalman CNPS12X turns out to be a stronger cooler than my 9900ALED (likely, it's a $90 cooler they're bringing out very soon) then I plan to get that too, and perhaps that would give me more room to try OCing this bad boy even more. I know that under Intel Burn Test my 4.5GHz 1.36V 2500K gets up to about 72 Celsius max'ish with my 9900, and I'd like to try and get some lower temperatures. If I'm really lucky and I'm feeling daring and I have the dough, I'll probably get a liquid cooling loop going.

To be fair, that's with Intel Burn Test. It's great at testing it's heat output but it seems more like P95 is better at picking up instability. I'm sure Deltrus has tried to make it go further, but if he's done most of the testing in IBT then he should give P95 a spin.

Hello! I updated my OC and fine-tuned my RAM. The past few days, I've been trying to get a stable overclock using 200BLCK with a 20x multiplier, but it just doesn't like being stable at that, even pumping it with 1.4+ volts. I'd wanted to do that so I could keep my RAM's rated 1600MHz speed with its XMP timings, but that just wasn't going to happen. So I reverted to my old OC and just seriously tightened the timings - now my RAM is faster than it was before, so I'm very happy with the results.

    Name: Cantii
    Processor: Core i7 950
    Clock: 4025MHz
    Voltage: 1.34
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Push/Pull with shroud

    Valid CPU-Z link: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2067622

Memory is completely stable, ran Memtest86+ for 3 hours at those timings without errors. I actually increased the voltage on my QPI/DRAM voltage as well as VCore just to increase stability. All C-States are enabled as well as SpeedStep, due to this, my idle temps are 38C, 36C, 38C, 34C +/- 1C and it's stable when it ramps up. I'm considering setting my multiplier to max (24x) and try for a 4.2GHz some time down the road. And yes, it finished all 20 rounds of IBT - I personally think it's more stressful than P95, as I've gotten most of my BSODs using IBT when P95 was fine - that's just my personal experience.
