What is your favourite type of real life melee weapon?

    I'm talking non artillery/conventional guns.

Mine would be the Rhomphaia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhomphaia - Type into Google Images "Rhomphaia" (without the " " as per usual) for a better image.

That's like saying "What's your favorite bird? I'm talking non mammalian/fungi".

That said, i'll be boring and take a (long)sword, unless my enemy is wearing heavy armour, then i'll take a mace.

I don't really use melee weapons in real life unfortunately. Brass knuckles do look cool though.

I am partial to Shotels in their appearance. Don't seem to be very viable weapons though. For practicality, I'd say either a knife, brass knuckles, or a cane. Yes. A walking cane.

I have always like the Manrikigusari, I like most types of sari (chain weapons.) Which would also include the Meteor Hammer, Chigriki Kusari-gama and the Flail of course.

I wish Wow had chain weapons, the animations would kick ass, especially meteor hammer.

Although I am more of an archer myself, I really like the Gladius.

... Although, what's wrong with a simple kitchen knife?

It's got one clear advantage over anything else - accessibility.
Not to mention that you don't even need a permit for it, despite it's deadliness.

Carrying a knife (or brass knuckles) outside of your home and or property, without proper justification, is punishable by law in my country, up to 5 years of prison.
