First time I heard that units in Halo were called Spartas, i was wondering if Halo was taking place in Ancient Greece lol!

Mostly depends on the situation but if someone just randomly walks up to me on the street and yells SPARTANS! I think of the spartans of history, mostly because I don't like Halo, story missions are bleh and online it's nothing but your mom jokes and whiney bitches
