Why is it that Blacksmiths (or insert your profession of choice) can craft epic quality....even BIS....items but yet they can't repair them?

vendor repairs serves as gold sink, which this game desperately needs. with every expansion, gold inflated but a constant gold sink does not exist other than the ah, even that is only 5 percent.

The reason is purely economical. but on the other hand, items don't get destoyed from damage, which makes player-repairing not very needed or urgent, although I feel it would be nicer.

Would be a massive advantage for BS/LW/Tailoring and possibly Engi.
And it would fuck over the server economy like artemis said.
