Why would you even tell this guy to switch races? Let him get up some levels, learn and then decide what race he's gonna play?

Because rerolling at level 10 is a lot less frustrating than rerolling at level 70.

I'm not sure if it's been updated though. (Also, there are no race specific talent trees)

It's a lot easier and 25 bucks cheaper to reroll at level 10 than it is 85.

I think someone mathed it out and the best Lock race (orc) was only like a 1k DPS over no racials at all

Right, pick the race you feel happy playing. In the long term you'll cherish it much more than a race you're not too fond of and 1% extra whatever.

But that's for human warlocks, the blood elf tree is different!

He said he was new, some games (forsaken worlds comes to mind) have different talents based on race.
A human warrior is pretty different from an elf warrior in that game.
