Thread: Positive week

    Positive week

I wonder how the forum would look like if for one week every single negative thread would get immediately locked with no questions asked, and people tried to focus on positive things...

Every single poll asking for the worst raid (these come up weekly), the biggest mistake blizz made (also weekly), the thing you hate most about your class (daily), things that are too easy/hard/different now (hourly)... All that cesspool completely disallowed for just one week.

    Worth a thought?

    Trolling should be.

My intent is to always stay open and positive in any arena but their are always folks that are up in arms or are flat out viral marketers anymore.

Finding the middle ground is often imposible and emotions take over.

It would be pretty boring, to be honest. It might sound nice to sit around and not have to "deal with" all the negative posting, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a discussion forum.

Sure, negative posts can be a downer, and we do lock the ones which have zero constructive discussion potential. But realistically, there's only so much sitting around and patting each other on the back congratulating each other on how awesome everything is before it becomes boring. Plus, the way things get better is by having a constructive discussion of why things are bad, and what should change.

Despite some users' views on moderation, stifling public opinion isn't the prerogative of these forums (unless they're malicious, of course).

Lot of those threads just aren't discussion, but polls that go "vote which instance you hate most", or "vote which expansion was the worst". Often there's 2-3 words in first post to get around the 10 char limit. Also what's there to discuss with "I quit because of..." or "WoW sucks because of..." threads that are written as a manifesto running 4 pages and should be in some random blog site instead of discussion forum.

I vote for more iron-fisted moderation towards the kind of waste of space mentioned above.

If you want to take away free speech, sure.

By the by... free speech only applies to the government. The government can't tell people what they can say or print. Companies (ahmg curse is a company) can restrict people as much as they want to.

Of course, but a lot of people propose ideas that take away free speech without knowing, and when they realize what they're doing, they retract it. This guy has good intentions, I just want him to know what he's doing.
