Single 6990 able to handle eyefinity?

So I recently found a job (after almost a year and a half) and I would really like to get eyefinity.

would a single 6990 handle 3 monitors flawlessly?

or would crossfired 6950 do the job?

no point in getting the 6990 if 6950xfire can fork out the same results

The crossfired 6950 should be more than sufficient. If you're concerned, I'd go with a crossfired 6970 rig.

Are you going to use all three monitors for games? or are you more looking for a slacker setup where you have World of Warcraft on one screen, a movie on another and maybe a browser on the third?

6990 is a Crossfire card so you have to divide the memory by two, as it only has half of the memory available.

So... 6990 with 4GB memory is equal to 2GB memory on a 6950 card.

I used a single 6970 with eyefinity before and didn't run into any issues. Of course, it depends on what games you're playing and what settings levels you're willing to use.

    ^ Pretty much.

I intend to use a single 6970 though. I will have to suffer through the lower settings. :3 (or trifire with a 6990, mayhaps, far down the line).

I've got 2 2gb 6950s(flashes to the 6970 shaders) and they handle Eyefinity with not issues what so ever. I built a rig for a buddy a while back with 2 1gb 6950s and it runs it fine as well.

It would be nice to say I own a 6990, but I personally wouldn't go for one.

I have a single 6970, and it handles eyefinity without a problem, on some of the games with a bit better graphics I might have to lower it a tiny bit, but nothing you'll really notice. So yes, a single 6990 will handle it without a problem.
