Gonna get a new GPU for this very budget build at around September

So BF3 and other shit are coming out in around October and im still rolling with a 9600 GT.

I dont really need advice on the GPU im going to get. Ive already decided that ill probably get a HD 6850.
But i need to know if my PSU could handle it. And as an nvidia fanboy (More familiar with drivers and i like PhysX) i would of taken an nvidia gpu but for them i KNOW that my PSU isnt enough. So AMD will do for now.

The PSU is only a 450 Watt PSU. it has two +12v rails. The other one is 14A while the other is 15A. The combined wattage on the two 12v rails is 288 watts. The PSU does not have 80+ efficiency.

    And what im running is:
    • Athlon II x3 445 @ 3.2ghz from 3.1ghz at 1.5v - I dont even know what i think i gain with 100mhz so im willing to return to 3.1 if i need to for the GPU.
    • 2x 2GB Kingston 1333mhz RAM @ 1380mhz also on 1.5v
    • 9600GT - 96 watts (HD 6850 is 127)
    • 80mm case fan
    • One 7200 rpm HDD
    • one IDE ODD
    Thanks.

edit: oh yeah and inb4 "get new psu".....

Thought so. But how close would i be to overload? Should i be afaid of adding another HDD sometime?
Hwmonitor is reporting my CPU wattage as 105W and since the HD 6850 uses 127 watts.. Thats 232 Watts on the 12v rails right?
And the maximum wattage for them is 288 Watts.

Yeah, you'll have room. Don't go overboard though. PSU's are reported to be most efficient around 50% load, so the further you are away from that, the faster it wears.

He certainly does not have room. His PSU will be struggling to get by, will most likely end up overheating after a month and in turn will damage his mobo.

OP: You're going to need a new PSU. Shoot for a name brand and make sure it's over 550.
    i7-4770k - GTX 780 Ti - 16GB DDR3 Ripjaws - (2) HyperX 120s / Vertex 3 120
    ASRock Extreme3 - Sennheiser Momentums - Xonar DG - EVGA Supernova 650G - Corsair H80i

    Im getting a HD 6850 not a 6970

It will probably work but I don't like loading the PSU with more than 90% of it's capabilities.

You act like 100 watts is a big jump. It's really not; 550 is about the minimum I like to put in any computer.

Then im probably going to have to spend 50 euros on a PSU and the remaining 100 on a GTS 450.... which isnt so good :/
This is a damn expensive country. HD 6850 150 euros and gts 450 100e...

    Get a 5770, the GTS 450 sucks.

Cant really get a PSU for 25 euros can you... HD 5770 is also 125e

You can get the 6850, downclock it to bring the power consumption to the 9600GT level and start saving for a PSU.
I'm not sure what PSU are you going to get for €50 but it probably won't be very powerful.

theres really no reason to get +500w if you don't have 6970 or some sli/cf whatever

E: Psu linked above is really good for it's price, i'd just get the 450w one though

Then a GTS 450 and a new PSU seem fine.
The GTS 450, while being slower than a 5770, is significantly faster than a 9600GT.
And don't try to get very powerful graphic cards, since they require more processing power to get the maximum out of them, and you just don't have it. I'm talking about GTX 460/6870 and above. It's just not worth it with that CPU.

    CPU: Core 2 Duo E8300 2.83Ghz or Phenom II X2 555
    RAM: 4 GB
GFX: GeForce GTS 250 or Radeon HD 4830
    GFX RAM: 512MB
    DX: 11

    Battlefield 3 Ultra System Requirements
CPU: Core i5-760 Quad 2.8GHz or Phenom II X4 965

1680x1050. And i dont really care about AA. Cause ive always had such a crap PC that i can never use it. Except for 4x in source engine games.

450W should be fine as long as you aren't using like 3-5 HDDs or multiple PCI cards. I usually aim for 500W for average gaming pc.
