    Rhyolith help

I've been having trouble with this fight for 4 weeks now and we still can't go to P2.
Nobody is sure yet why we are failing so much, but it's probably the steering part.

Regarding this fight, with how many stacks of eruption would the damage start to be a problem?
We have 3 dps at the legs (MUT rouge - me, warrior and a mage), but we are probably steering him too slow, because sometimes we get 5-6 stacks in one volcano and 2-3 stacks on the other (~80% bonus fire damage) before we can make him step on the active volcano.

Also, should we be hitting the two legs all the time?
Sometimes we stop dps so the boss will walk on a straight line.... would this be a problem?

And about P2... The boss got to P2 one time tonight (only one out of 18 trys), and insta-killed everybody.
We belive it was because of the molten armor buff he get's after stepping on an inactive volcano.... if so, should we wait for the stacks to go away, before entering P2, by avoiding every volcano until the stacks drop?
I heard that there was no problem on letting him step on inactive volcanos, because the bonus damage was too small, the damage that killed everybody on P2 was too high....

(here is my parse if it helps: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-wbtf3pzd9tw9kgqt/ -- I think the try we got him on P2 was try 12)

It's all about having luck with the volcanoes. Lord Ryolith is a b*tch and that's it. Might be better to focus on Baleroc or Alysrazor.

The second we single tanked it, and 6 dps'd it, we won. I would try that, if you're two tanking it. The fragments die so fast and are healable. That 20% more dps is sooo worth it.

    1.) Priest should go disc.
2.) A melee that can talk and not afraid to yell in vent to guide other melee to dps a certain foot.
3.) Range on adds unless you need too make a drastic turn then call out for some more dps to help turn him.
4.) Mark a stack point in the middle where all range/healers should be standing near for AOE heals and so every1 can stack there during phase 2. ( You kinda need too do this). Pop tranq's, SLT, and if the priest goes disc, PW:S.
5.) Ignore the volcano's that are not spitting out the lava, drive that guy right into them.
6.) at 30% he goes into phase 2... If you get a new add while the boss is at like 35%... just burn the boss to 30%, all adds will despawn, if this causes trouble though, you do not have to do it, its optional.
7.) Pop time warp rigth before phase 2 and heal every1 to full, use rallying cries etc.

    MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALLLLLLLLL------------***********************

the lava lines the volcano's spawn don't give buffs, they hit people for like 100k and more if you are falling behind on the volcano's. DONT FAIL TO THIS.

Hope this guide helps to killing this guy, he is actually pretty easy.

Already doing it with one tank, but everybody is still dieing to the god damned volcanos.

It's probably because we are not steering him fast enough, but I'm not sure. How many stacks of that thing that increases fire damage do you usually get?

We didn't try this.... but it sounds interesting

Sounds like a steering issue to me. Take the mage off, we just used 2 melee on reg for the most part. At least make it an even number. And prioritize active volcanoes, but just explode them all don't go out of your way to get an active one and pass the inactive ones. And as someone already said make sure you get someone with good raid awareness to call out direction.

Yea and ignore adds when you get near 30%

He goes into phase 2 at 25%, not 30%.

It looks like issues with people taking unnecessary damage (fire lines from volcanoes) and just getting better at steering him. If you have volcano debuffs up for too long, get multiple volcanoes up together regularly, or think that this fight is subject to much RNG then you are not steering him very well. When done correctly, there is little RNG to the fight and once you get steering down you'll find its not really a difficult fight at all.

From my recent kills of this boss I've learned 2 things:

    1. Avoid dormant (inactive, whatever) volcanoes like the plague. they don't do any damage til they're active and if you break one with the boss he gains a damage buff, plus they can launch lava lines. I started steering the boss away from them and the healers have thanked me for it.
    2. Stop going near volcanoes at ~30%. This allows the boss to stomp off the damage buffs he has from killing them, and prevents him from killing your raid.

If you're having trouble with stacks of the volcano, it might be a steering issue, but it could also be that the sparks are being tanked too close to your raid - they stack them with their AoE pulse.

If all else fails, try having your mages/rogues/paladins/death knights use immunities to reduce fire damage taken so your healers actually have mana for p2. If you have everyone alive, he drops VERY quickly.

The first thing the OP should realise is that the above quote is NOT true.

The fight is not about 'having luck with volcanos' in its current version - not for normal nor on heroic - even if heroic is less forgiving when things dont go to plan.

Nevertheless it's MUCH easier when you have luck with volcano spawns.

People are so busy obsessing over 'good luck' and 'bad luck' that they forget the biggest factor in success for Rhyolith is: their strat and their execution.

Its so much easier to kick the bucket in and say 'meh - we had bad luck guys'.

Another thing you MUST realize if you want to beat this fight. In both Normal and Heroic difficulties, 5minutes after you engage him, regardless if he is still in p1 or in p2, he will become Superheated which will increase his damage by 10%, and stack 10% more every 10 sec. Therefore it is absolutely crucial to switch to phase 2 at 4:30-4:40 minute mark the latest, otherwise you will just get destroyed by superheated stack damage increase. If he switches to p2 at 5:00 minute mark or later, you will almost surely wipe, regardless if you have 2 or 3 healers.

    1. Use heroism in p1, preferably around 4:00 - 4:20.
    2. Set raid cooldowns for AT LEAST the first 2 stomps in p2, with tranquility/divine hymn etc powerful healing cooldowns between stomps.
    3. Use Deterrence/Bubble/Dispersion/Anti-magic shield/Cloak of shadows etc immunity/lifesaver abilities at he 2nd stomp in p2.

    We used 1 tank, 2 healers , 7 dps.
2 rogues and 1 fury warrior were steering boss.
Hunter + elemental shaman were full time on legs, only switching away to kill Sparks of Rhyolith.
Shadow priest + Affliction lock were aoe-ing fragments, and killing sparks, while dotting the legs if they ever got free time.

Basically it is all about the dps on legs, the earlier you switch to p2, the easier p2 will be, we had to go through many wipes to figure that out.

    Thank you for the answears
How many stacks of eruption do you guys usually get?
Is it normal to sometimes get like 100% fire damage increase (6 stacks from one volcano and 4 from other one), because the volcanos are far away from each other? It doesnt happen all the time, but volcanos tend to stack at least 5 times before we destroy them

Just looked at our logs and realized THAT is what is killing us on P2 then, not the fucking molten armor.

Its not 5 mins in normal mode, I believe its 7 minutes, but that is the soft enrage and you really need to push him to P2 before that happens.

There's not that much luck involved though. He will always prefer to make closer volcanoes active so as long as you drive him well and don't stomp inactive volcanoes very much you'll rarely have to run across the whole island to get to an active volcano. Same thing for always steering him towards the middle if you don't have an active volcano up so that its not far to any of the inactive volcano when he picks them.

It takes getting used to and learning, but much like people struggling with P1 of Al'Akir once you get better at it you realize there isn't much RNG involved at all.

The big problem is when he spawns a volcano right next to him and you have to instant spin him, then spin him back so he doesn't drink.
