    Tips for L. Rhyoloth

At the moment our setup is the following
    Blood DK: Tank
    Frost DK, Feral Druid: Melee
BM Hunter, Shadow priest, Arcane Mage, Ele shaman: Ranged
Resto shaman, resto paladin, holy priest

We got in about 10 or 20 attempts, didn't get very far at all. We had the two melee and the BM hunter on the legs, rest on adds, trying to stack near center with tank picking up adds. Is this correct? I was the feral druid, seemed hard trying to get the guy to turn in time.

And a lot of the ranged especially say there's more going on that fight then any other, anything I can do to tell them (Like what to ignore, what to focus on)

Any tips or advice based on your first attempts/kills on this guy would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if you are asking for heroic or normal mode, but in our experience (have killed 25m Heroic) feral druids are quite weak on the legs due to the high percentage of DoTs in their rotation. It should be possible to steer with only two dpsers, the frost DK and the Hunter will work fine for this.

We use a feral druid to tank the fragments, in full dps spec & gear, but in bear form. We find that this allows him to produce excellent threat and still decent damage as well.

After this it becomes an exercise in your ranged dpsers putting out enough aoe damage to kill the fragments in time, and then to still find time to DoT and do some dps on the Spark. Another small tip for sparks is that you can switch off them at around 15-20%, allowing the DoTs and tank to finish it off.

I meant 10m normal. Sorry for the confusion,
Also was wondering if alysrazor is an easier fight then this one, we've downed Baelroc, bethtilac and shannox so far.

our ranged and tank usually stack up near the entrance to Rhyolith's island stacking up just either side of it as needs be.

We also have two melee on the legs but one of them has be very very vocal and aware of where you need to turn. We also have a healer run around with them to make sure they're topped up. Also your ranged must be aware that they must go onto the legs if required for a more sharper turn (especially if it seems rhyolith is heading for the magma). Make it known, that the tank can survive a little longer being smacked by adds while the range help turn him, but the raid cannot survive if you allow him to hit the magma).

Yes there is a lot going on, what with, concussive stop. magma flow, active volcanos, and adds, but they can all be controlled when you know what to look out for. The fight can be very very rng based, however that does not make it impossible.

As for Alysrazor, the fight is about getting the process right, as soon as you know what to, (eg how to get your tanks to have a enough dps to kill their hatchling), being mindful of druid spawns, making sure the air dps (I suggest your shadow priest, or make your mage go fire) are getting 25 stacks), and the biggest thing... learning how to dodge tornados in p2.

As soon as that's down it's just about repeating the whole p1-4 cycle a few times. Actually quite dull.

You didn't really say why you're failing.

    a) he's drinking the lava
    - your steering team really isn't hitting the correct leg. either someone is dotting the other one or they are mis-targetting. either have them coordinate better or add a third full time leg dpsser and one (only ONE) person in charge of calling out which leg to dps.

    b) we get the debuff stacks too high and die from unhealable damage.
    - Might be bad luck. if active volcanoes always spawn just behind where you were, you're forced to do a whole circuit of the platform before you can stomp on them. There's really nothing you can do about this.
    - Most likely your steering team just needs to get better. Have one (and only one) person be in charge of steering. he will call out what to do to aim the boss at the next volcano. sometimes this means doing some very hard turns and the leg dps team must accomodate this. We've found we can handle these sharp turns on 10m normal with 3 good dps.

    c) fragments are not dying fast enough and instakill people
    - your ranged team just has to dps better or the fragment tank has to gather them up better. If htye don't die in 30 seconds the charge a random person and kill them.

    d) spark aoe is killing people
    - spark tank has to take him out of raid

    e) volcano fire trails are killing people
    - they have to not stand in fire

Looking at World of logs death overview, I'd say Eruption is what is killing people most, with Sparks sometimes killing people as a second.

Do you have someone calling out the location of the Magma Flow? Once someone started calling out the general vicinity of the Magma Flow we downed the boss in no time. No worries, once you have that down phase two is a complete joke. Takes 15 seconds.

All I can say is, keep practicing.

There can be a lot going on at one time during the fight, and you just need to get the hang of things. 20 wipes on this boss isn't that much at all imo. It took us like 50-60 wipes to completely get the hang of that fight (I think about half of those were before they fixed the erupting volcanoes). Just to give you an idea, we killed both Beth'Tilac and Staghelm on our 4th attempt ever.

Imo Alysrazor is harder then Rhyolith, although it's probably not far off. Alysrazor is more frustrating to learn though, because it's such a long fight. We had 2% wipes on her after a 14 minute fight, that really sucks.

    1. Magma Flow. Download the new version of DBM, it warns when Magma Flow is happening and makes it even easier to avoid (cause really moving out of the way of slow moving lines isn't hard, regardless of what's around any player should be able to avoid them.
-I downloaded EnsidiaFails for this boss to count the amount of times players get hit by magma flow. Our one person complaining the most about the fight was also the same person to get hit by Magma Flows 4 times in a single attempt. Our attempts where we down him, we have maybe 6 people who failed once. Maybe twice.

    2. DPS on legs.
-When the boss loses the 8 stacks of damage reduction, he starts getting Superheated. This is a problem because the longer you are moving the boss around without his armor, the more Superheated he gains and being 1 shot in phase 2 is going to be imminent. This was my guilds struggle with the fight, having enough DPS on the legs when he had 5 stacks left. Once we got him to 40% HP with 1 stack left, we went full burn on the legs to push him to 25% and thus phase 2.

    3. Active Volcanoes vs Non-Active Volcanoes
-It's best for your driving team to keep him away from non-active until they become active. It's easier said than done however and you're bound to have him stomping on some Non-Actives. This will cause more craters which means more possible places for Magma Flow. Best thing is to have all the people one the legs being very aware of where he is going and where volcanoes are spawning when he stomps.

    4. Single Tanking vs. 2 Tanking.
-Our guild uses 2 tanks. A bear druid full-time on Sparks. A prot warrior full-time on Fragments. Our Shadow priest and warrior kill the fragments together. Our Arcane Mage switches from legs to Spark and helps burn spark down. Aside from the SPriest and ArcMage, everyone else is on legs. 2 tanking this fight helps keep the adds away from the raid, and makes the fight way less of a clusterfuck. Keep your ranged group and healers stacked for aoe heals, and keep a healer dedicated to melee on the feet.

Alysrazor is very rough on Healers, especially the phase after chains. In my opinion, Rhyolith is 50% easier.

An additional 18 attempts tonight over the course of 3 hours.
Here's the deaths overview for the night: http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-4f...vak3o9/deaths/

    http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-4f9yk9r61nvak3o9/

We ended up, after some experimenting, having the hunter and DK do the steering with everyone else dpsing adds then moving to legs. DPS seemed low, a few times we got through four sparks and no more adds were spawning yet the boss was still at like 50% health...

Fairly certain this is false. At least on heroic, superheated is based on time spent in combat, not stacks of Molten Armor. After 5 minutes he will begin to gain stacks of superheated. It may be longer on normal. On our few normal kills we never bothered to all out switch to the boss and still never saw superheated stacks.

I advise the OP to simply ignore the new set of adds once he boss reaches ~50% HP. Burn the boss, adds despawn on transition. On the burn, make sure you dont let him drink lava. The fight is all about maximizing dps. If the fragments blow up in 5 seconds there is too much dps on them. You have 30 seconds to kill them, don't let them charge but certainly dont assign too many people to it. When add dps is idle they should be on legs. Assign every dps a leg to dps when you want him to go straight. Make sure they all know those assingments because zigzagging towards volcanoes is very, very bad.

No reason to have a feral on adds, they have to stand there and not DPS the bigger one, shove him on the legs, and instead of your hunter, put your mage on the legs, when you really have to turn him, the arcane mage does enough damage to turn him 180 in 15 seconds or so, also, having an arcane mage on legs provides you with sufficient burn after his armor goes down to make him not get a lot of superheated.

Also having a hunter to MD adds makes your tank's life much easier.

This fight is a cakewalk considering we one shot in a PuG today on my server on our alts. Resto druids are by and far the most over powered healers on this fight; the more the better.

10m normal can easily be 3 healed, solo tanked.

AoE should be the Shadow priest, ele shaman, and the hunter. I don't know why your hunter is BM. Make him go survival or marks, the former being better for aoe.

Have your frost dk, feral, and mage all doing legs. If you're having problems turning you may want to consider not having people multi-dot, although from my understanding dots dont seem to matter that much. The Fragments can spawn pretty much anywhere, just have the Hunter misdirect every other wave and the dk tank shouldnt have any issues picking them up and tanking them wherever. The Spark needs to be killed asap by the ranged ( 3 the AoE-ers should suffice but if steering goes better having the mage switch off is good as well). Regardless of whatever strat you're using, there's absolutely no reason to wipe on this encounter with 3 healers. If he is drinking the lava you need to tell your dps on the legs to pay attention. You should have someone "Steering" calling out which leg to be on.

(Exp: killed on heroic 10m, 2 healed )
