    Anti Virus

so yeah I installed Bitdefender on my computer and getting told from wow official forums that is whats causing me to crash, this is also after uninstalling fraps, deleting cache folders, reinstalling and uninstall Nvidia 3D drivers. but when I reinstalled my WoW wouldn't update, so I go told to Uninstall bitDefender and now I could update again...

so basicly I was wondering if anyone knows about a anti virus that runs good with WoW, doesn't matter if its paid or not really. prefer a paid one due to support tho.

been looking at Kaspersky PURE and Vipre Home Premium.
lets just say I regret paying for BitDefender now...

I prefer Avira AntiVir (free for personal use). Always worked perfectly fine with WoW too: http://www.avira.com/en/index

Microsoft Security Essentials, all the goodies of Microsoft. That is, though, if you got a legal version of Windows XP, Vista or 7. And it's free.

I, myself, use Kaspersky paid version, but you can have a fully functional 30 day trial to test it out.

I'm using Avast, free version and love it Have tried many others but I just prefer this one for a few simple reasons, it updates a lot and finds/blocks a lot.

not to fan of Avast and free versions myself tbh rather pay a bit :-) nothing in life is free!

will check out MSE tho, and yeah i've used Kaspersky for a long time but bought bitdefender now as it was rated better then kaspersky and loved the way it ran in the background protecting without giving me any notifications or annoying shit

MSE is a funny thing. I had XP and it never came in as an option for the updates. I never even knew it existed. When I got this free PC with Vista it showed up in Windows Update (as optional I think, that might explain XP not 'seeing' it) and I was all "lawl. So much for Live One Care."

It works. Haven't had to really run it through the wringer, but other's have already done that I'm sure.
    Moo.

I've always used avira antivir and never had any problems... only thing it does that annoys me is that it likes to flag keygens/cracks as viruses lol, but most antivirus's do that ><
Also heard that AVG was good, never tried it myself though.

I prefer Avast over Microsoft Security Essentials. I find Avast has better real time protection while browsing for porn.

I understand your doubts but AntiVir is very good and proved to be very reliable. The worst you get are false alarms as mentioned by someone else here already but very rarely.

I've been using Panda Internet Security for a few years and I've never had any problems. Hey, what can go wrong with a Panda?

MSE is boss, paying for an anti virus is a joke, well no not really but paying for the big corporate ones is a joke, I.E Norton, that thing was lousy and demanded a lot of money for doing a whole lot of nothing.

You remember when people paid for browsers like Netscape? That is what will be said about anti-virus software in 5 years. Microsoft has decided to give it away free. The management tools for MSE and their paid version (Forefront Endpoint Protection) is now built in to Group Policy and SCCM. This means not having to have yet another management server to support.

The last time I went looking at vendor-neutral anti-virus testing it turns out the MSE performed better than both the Norton and McAfee corporate versions. Some things like Kapersky beat MSE. The other thing that MSE has that not all anti-virus products have built in is anti-spyware detection. I switched out McAfee Corporate on all my machines and switched to MSE. I am also recommending it to all my clients.

Sadly MSE detection has fallen behind since it first came out. It now ranks almost last. http://www.av-test.org/certification...n_desc&lang=en

Personally I use avast and like it. MSE is alright too, but like the chart states above, its not as good as detecting things, they seem to update things just a little too late in most cases :/

If you're looking to pay buy a security suite, Norton Internet Security 2011, Kaspersky and BitDefender are really the best you can get, though since you're using BitDefender and it's causing things to crash, go with either of the other two. Or for just straight anti-virus, MSE or avast! are great, too.

To those saying Norton is crap, look again. NIS 2011 is one of the best security suites out there, it no longer eats up copious amounts of resources nor is it constantly bitching at you over the simplest things anymore. Its interface is not for the faint of heart, though, so be warned. For the record, I use MSE, but might be changing to one of the paid security suites... not sure yet, though.

I think a lot of us who bad mouth norton have just been disapointed with them in the past, anyone who has bought a pre built computer from best buys or what not, probably had norton on it, and it was the most annoying garbage program ever to be installed onto a computer, and I assume more people went prebuilt till they were educated on building there own. Even my last prebuilt computer which was 3 years ago, had norton on it, and then it was bad, since then I don't even look at it, if they have done better since then, I would say they are worth giving a shot, but after such a long period of being an annoying program I don't think Id be willing to look at it , just because of the price of it alone.
