so what i want to ask-
    1) will this setup work fine?
    2) im also a little over budget so i was thinking of instead of getting the radeon 6950 i'd get the 550ti, is there a massive difference between these 2 that would warrant the 50 or so £ extra?
    3) is there anything which is a bit overkill or that i could get at a cheaper price but would still make the system run? e.g is the psu too much?

any replies are welcome and thanks in advance.

Your setup will work fine, but there are come things that could be changed for the better at the same price...

    The Changes::::::
CPU cooler, get the 212+, it is quieter and better at cooling.
Get the 2500k CPU (For $10 and up to 25% performance gain... yes!)
For HDD you can save by getting the F3. It is the best price/perform atm for 1TB 7200 HDD.
For Gcard you can get the 6870 if you need to cut some out of the budget!

Btw, don't get the 550 ti, get the 460 (dis wun haz nice fanz) instead for the same price and better performance if you want Nvidia.

the 6950 is miles ahead of the 550ti
you could get a samsung spinpoint f3 hdd, they're just as fast as the caviar black and usually cheaper
you could also save some by getting a cheaper case like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elite-330-Mi...31&s=computers
you should definitely get an i5-2500k

ok so i got the 2500k and also the samsung f3 hdd, i changed the gpu to a 6870 and changed the case to the one posted by taekvideo.
i just want to know if i have everything needed to build the computer now (i have got a mouse, monitor, and keyboard) and if i will need an anti-static wristwrap seeing as how it is only £4 is it needed? Also will i need some thermal paste, or screws or are they provided?

thanks for the help so far guys

You don't need a wriststrap. You can just ground yourself on something metal every once in a while.. The heatsink will come with thermal paste, and the case should come with all the screws you need.

Grab yourself a few cable ties to bunch up the cabling inside your computer once you have it all together, it improves airflow.
