Guess that City

Idea: Go to cities on Google Earth, turn 3D buildings on, play around with your view angles so you can clearly see the skyline. Turn off labels and cut out pic so the google earth interface and co-ords can't be seen. Post in this thread so other can guess what city it is

Don't answer a specific city if you
A) Live in that City
B) Regularly commute or visit that City

Don't just use Pictures of the actual city, it will make it easier use the Google Earth method above.

City 1: 2nd Largest city in the country the city resides in, and the large blue building in the center of the city is also the largest building in the country. (if you don't count the spire on the actual tallest)


City2: Solved - It's Portland

City 3: Solved- It's Singapore


City 4: solved-It's Brisbane


City 5: Solved-It's Dublin




Protip: Don't put the name of the city in the image's file name

No, but the more skyscrapers the better. Some cities have very little buildings in 3D building mode, i wanted to do Hong Kong but although having the most Skyscrapers in real life 3D buildings mode doesn't seem to have many at all

City 2 looks like maybe Oakland, and City 6 looks maybe like N.Y.C


Edit: City 3 looks like San Francisco, if that's a ballpark on the edge of the water.

Both incorrect, i can see how you thought New York thought, it didn't even cross my mind that that would potentially look like central park.

I like the idea, but it seems a bit too hard. Unless you're familiar with the city and recognize certain buildings, it's very hard to figure out what city it is, other then just browse through google earth. I haven't spot any familiar landmarks or anything like that. Perhaps some clues would make it more interesting?

city 6 looks like something european: low buildings, and what could be a classic oval in the left bottom corner. Something in Italy perhaps?

Interesting game. It's quite difficult to find a city that stands out in some way, but isn't too obvious. And to provide a hint that makes looking for it easier, but doesn't makes you able to google the answer.

Singapore was a good one, landscape suggests a coastal city in Asia, and the stadium gives some visual focus point.

Dublin was nice too, obviously a European city, just took me a while to find the proper one.

Athens was great, was looking for it in Italy at first. Once I went over to Athens it was just a matter of finding the right spot.

The Canals on is good to, someone will probably find that soon.

New York is too easy

Portland was fun to do as well. Looks very american, and the mountains suggest somewhere west coast, but it took me ages to find.

Thank you for the initiative, I hope this will continue.

Indeed, it is. When i first started searching Hong Kong had crossed mind but when i was going to do Hong Kong i recalled there being more Skyscrapers, until after about 10 minutes i relised the picture is of the south side of Hong Kong ><
