I find that names work best when tied to something related to their physical appearance or behavior.
For instance, my cat that I've had since he was born. He came into this world a natural troublemaker (he took almost 2 hours to be born, and when he did he was twice his sister's size), and he trolls to this day. His name is Loki.
His brother ended up getting named Bailey, because he is a flame point and looks like irish cream.
It helps also to know the gender of the cat.

Our cat is called Rogue
Rogue = X-Men Rogue (I'm a big fan of X-Men)
Rogue = WoW related (both for me and my boyfriend)
So pick a name that suits you the best!
