probably time for a new computer, need help though =P

Hey! My good ol' bucket is getting old, and a bit cranky. The soundcard crashes for no obvious reason, its slow etc.

So.. Im looking for a new computer =D But the thing is... I dont know enough these days about computers so I would like some help in picking out either a
stock one or perhaps build my own. The building part should be no problem even though I dont have a clue of how to do, I got friends =P I live in Sweden btw
if any1 could get the prices etc.

The computer I'm looking for doesnt have to be the biggest baddest of the market, I want a decent computer, that can handle most games (atm Guild Wars 2 and MAYBE BF3, depending on how heavy BF will be.) And some other not so heavy games. A good all round computer would be the best description =D

So if you have any ideas on what would be the cheapest alternative please share your thoughts =P

    -edit-

    1. Budget: Probably not much higher than 6000 Swedish Crowns, apprx €600
    2. Sweden as I mentioned =)
    3. Mostly schoolwork, like writing, powerpoints etc, and ofc gaming.

6000 Swedish Krona works out to be roughly $930 US. Can check out these builds on a UK/Euro specific website. Unfortunately the parts will link to Newegg.com which won't help you much. The name of the UK sites the guys are using these days slip my mind but I'm sure someone else will come along with a couple links for ya. This will at least give you a ground level to start with.

AFAIK, 6000SEK (due to price difference) corresponds to around $600. Yea, prices in Sweden sucks.

Here we go it was scan.co.uk that the boys were using.

Here is a quick build using the scan.co.uk site
    Thermaltake V3 35.02
    Antec Earthwatts 380W PSU 38.35
    Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2-B3 Motherboard 46.33
    Intel Core i3 2100 88.96
    4GB Corsair XM3 24.48
    1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 39.11
    Liteon 22X DVD R/RW 13.99
    1GB Asus GTX560 139.87
Works out to be 426.11 pounds including VAT. Pretty sure that falls within the budget if not leaving room to upgrade the motherboard to a P67 variant with an I5 2500k. So yeah definitely you can build a great computer using the scan.co.uk website and their prices are good.

Dude you're asking a Canadian. I'm just trying to help a fellow forum poster out. I have very very very limited knowledge of computer hardware websites over in the UK and surrounding area. I just picked the site because I've seen quite a few users using as of late and I would assume they ship outside of the UK but obviously I am not 100% sure. It at least gives us something to work with knowing that we can build a decent system within the budget.

Total: 7265.. doesn't include operating system, mouse, keyboard, monitor

If you can't afford that, then you can replace the cpu with
    CPU (930) http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=626705
and remove the cpu cooler.. which brings the total down to 6090

Does it require a monitor, keyboard, etc?

Made this build on dustinhome.se, but not sure how well it performs...

Nope, no monitor required, only the computer itself

Windows, or will you get that cheap through school, work, etc?

If can get a little more like 6,7k get the build taekvideo got it features a good and strong pc that will last a while drop the cpu cooler you can get that later. If you got windows on a flash stick drop the DVD.

Dont got with a AMD build its just not worth it only if you are rly rly on budget. Like 400$ or less.

The i3 2100 goes atleast here in germany for the same price as the amd x4 9xx and runs circles around it.(Ofc you can oc it but to be at the point where the x4 owns the i3 2100 your looking at atleast a 50-60 euro increase and thats the point where you can get a i5 2500k which runs circles around the x4 (even oc) again.

An intel build would be better, but I'm pretty sure that an AMD is the best budget machine he can get right now for the pricepoint. The mobos are distinctly cheaper from intel's, while to my knowledge still allowing you to overclock.

Though in my build I added 8 GB RAM. That wasn't necessary.

Also, the rest of your post is just random. Intel i3 2100 running circles around the AMD's Phenom II 955 BE? I doubt it. These benchmarks show them within such a small margin of each other it's silly.
