I use StaxRip for all encoding/decoding/reencoding/etc... it's a gui front for dozens of free cmd line programs (same ones that the scene people use).
It's easy to use... only took a few minutes to figure it out... once you get used to it you'll be able to convert audio/video file between just about any formats easily.If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One... now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.

Try DVD2AVI. I haven't used it recently, but I used it several years ago, and it served me well.
